A laptop on account? I'm in desperate need of one (thinking of the Sony Vaio), but don't have the money to pay upfront, prefer installments.

Any suggestions?

Take your pick: Game; Incredible Connection (first choice); Telkom; etc

But do check your instalments with others as they will hide "insurance" which is a legal requirement not that it means jack when you do try to claim if the item gets stolen, its more a life policy for the duration of the instalments just in case you killed by angry Ninjas.

Thanks, are Incredible Connection's prices competitive?

I think most (if not all) IC stores you can get a laptop on a Vodacom 3g contract, I think it's the MyMeg600 for R249pm, you then pay for the laptop on top of that. For example, a laptop costing R4999, will be R200pm over the 24month contract and pay R449pm in total. I'm pretty sure you can also do it over 36months which will bring the repayments of the laptop down.
You can choose any laptop in the store which is pretty cool.

Thanks,I didn't know how these laptop deals work.I guess I need to weigh the pro of having a laptop against the con of being tied down to a contract for 2-3 years.

I spend R189pm on Vodacom bundles, are there any good deals with megs + Vaio out there at the moment?

Go to IC and take a look, you get cheap Vaio's and expensive ones. Like Krepunk said you can get any laptop on a contract.

What do you need a laptop so badly for?

work? Trust me do not go down the contract route i did that with my netbook and i am paying 359 a month and i barely use the laptop of the megs and i still have another 2 years left. Worst decision of my life.

IC have horrible prices on desktops but their laptop prices are fine IMO, plus you can actually take a look at them and try them out.

Also there after sales service is the best. Laptops are the worst things to purchase in this regards. Most stores will not take them back as soon as you pay for it (I use to work in a store and avoided laptop sales due to the poor after sales service on these things).

My boss has even swopped out two laptops with IC a few days after he purchased them as they he wanted something else.

Just wanted one for home use, nothing that urgent. Yes, I'm also wary about being bound by a contract. I'll need to weigh the pro's and cons.

But thanks for all the responses, at least I know if I go ahead, I'll shop at IC first.

If you're still referring to your thread/post, you might also want to add Makro to the list - I think they're the sole supplier of Fujitsu Siemens in SA. I bought one about 3 years ago from them, have used it extensively & haven't had any trouble ... only problem is the under-performing battery (3 cell, I think it is) - they must've found a decade-old one to put in my machine.
In that respect, whatever laptop you go for, ensure it has decent battery life...someone I met around the time I bought mine had an HP, the battery life of which could last for about 5 hours at a time.

Thanks for the tip, battery life is an important consideration for me,since I surf for hours on end.
