Hi Guys

I've got a once off project that I need to get a PCB printed and assembled, I just don't have the time to do it myself.
Can anyone recommend a company in JHB/PTA or surrounds that does these kind of things?

Sourcing the Atmel AT90USB646-AU microcontroller will probably be the trickiest thing for this :D

Eish can't remember where the thread is where people were talking about getting it done in China - quite sure it worked out cheaper than getting it done locally. Not much help but maybe it rings a bell for someone.

Maybe one of these Chinese companies can assist?

Just to weigh in. We had good recommendations of companies in Cape Town who do this (doing dozens of the same thing) We had multiple problems from bad soldering to incorrect placement to missing parts.

Jlcpcb and pcbgogo / Chinese full shops, just do it first time right, and it's quicker often and cheaper!!

They'll be able to help you out, but they're in Cape Town... Maybe they can refer you to someone in JHB. They know the industry well.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone :) I'll definitely try @Koos Custodiet I'm out of the country again in 3 weeks so want to try have it completed by then

Out of interest sake, would PCBGogo or JLCPCB be useful for having a custom built Intel atom-based CPU+RAM+onboard disk (smallest possible design) made or does one need to rather look for OEM manufacturers for that?

I frankly don't understand why companies in SA even bother to make PCBs anymore.
Assembly is a different story but JLCPCB and PCBWay make such good PCBs now and have so many options that you can't even compete.
And now I'm just talking about options and quality of what you get.
I mean you can order multi-layer PCBs, immersion gold, high copper content tracks, lead free, leaded, any colour, etc.

If you throw in price it is a no-brainer.
You are getting a better quality product at a lower price, plain and simple.
Even in a more electronics design centered country like the US, they can't keep up.

I order often from JLCPcb and use the postal option to save money but if you want it quicker, then also do a quote on PCBWay.

There are also tutorials about how to create an order, because sometimes order more can be cheaper or you can get a lot more PCBs made for the same $5 you pay for a single PCB.

I hate to say it's also the assembly too. The Chinese guys are better at doing it, better at testing it - just generally MUCH more professional. Nothing but problems from several local guys unless you're doing thousands so they can 'get their eye in'
