Where can I learn more about shares?

I always hear about this, be it on the radio or whatever. Would it be a good thing to get involved in and/or how would one get started in it?

Is it a good way to make money?

I made 50% on my investment within about 2 months and then lost everything lol. I'm sure you can find a few tutorials on youtube.

If thats the way you heard about it then clearly you are not ready for shares. However, you can definitely look at SATRIX (google it). Gives you exposure to the share market but removes the part where you have to pick a specific share. Essentially you're investing in the "average" of the share market.

This does not seem accurate to me. Unless your using a leverages product you're not going to hit beyond your initial outlay. If you used your clothing budget for that then yes you might lose the clothes off your back.

OP wants to make money, not invest for the long term. To me that says high risk products. Satrix is great but you're not going to make significant income on it.

I'm all for share investment and taking risk, but the risk you take should be appropriate for your appetite and should be in line with what you want to achieve. I'm sure you will agree with me?

I get what you're saying, but making money doesn't necessarily mean quick buck. To some people beating inflation = making money. To others 200% pa is making money.

OP will have to elaborate on what exactly his/her aim is...

Going from complete novice to trading is not advisable at all. Trading requires a fairly intimate knowledge of the market...

LadiesMan over here still had his dad pay for his car's maintenance so starting a retirement fund isn't exactly a priority for him current, I'm willing to wager.

Standard bank online share trading offers a free introductory course. Maybe look for it on their website.

Go to Sharenet.co.za and open a mock account and play with mock money.
