Where did the dictionary go? iPad update V7.0.2

One of the things I loved most about my iPad was the built in spellcheck and the dictionary. You could highlight text anywhere and select define and 9 times out of 10 it would give you the definition. Since the V7.0.2 update that feature no longer works. There have been updates to various apps as well, including iBooks so I'm not sure where the bug crept in.

Actually, I'd really like to go back to V7.0 (or whatever it was before). Apple say this can't be done. Is that true?

I'm scared to do updates now because something is always worse or stops working altogether after the "upgrade".

Works fine on 7.04, go ahead upgrade, it's all ok.
