As the other thread is a bit anti-halal I thought I would ask here.

The reason I ask is that all spars, checkers, pick n pays etc are not doing it in a way that makes sense.

They all sell alcohol, they all bake, fry, cook and sell pork products (breads, sandwiches, burgers and all the rest).

So where do you shop?

There's a difference between buying raw products and buying where food is prepared. Just about every large supermarket will have a fridge stocked with halaal products.

*edit*

I also take exception to you categorising my thread as only 'a bit anti-halal'. :p

LOL, but food is prepared in all these shops, this is why I ask.
Ham and cheese sandwiches/toasties
Savory breads with bacon bits in.
Bacon and egg toastoes
Bacon and cheese burgers

The same equipment used to cut up lamb and beef is used to cut up pork.
The pork carcasses hang alongside the cows and sheep.

These all get made inside the shop, not offsite.

Well, ja. I don't 'spose a practising Muslim will pop down to the local SPAR for some fresh chicken wings, but there will likely be a fridge with certified raw chicken. I would figure that such stores acquire their halaal goods already packed from alternate suppliers.

This. Mostly we buy from Halaal butchers. But if we were to buy from Pick n Pay, their products would have most likely been bought from a halaal supplier, and not cut and prepared by themselves. Woolies also stocks halaal food, as Excellent Meat Market is their supplier.

But you buy food in a place where non halal food is prepared and alcohol is sold without a problem?

Also, I have never seen a separate fridge for halal and non halal products in any of these shops.
Usually the pork is next to the lamb or between the lamb and beef.

When you say prepared, do you mean packaged (raw) or cooked? I am refering to buying raw meat. So if Pick n Pay sells raw meat packaged that was bought from a Halaal supplier, then yes we will buy it. Cooked food would be a no.

It wouldnt be prepared on the premises.
It would be sealed and transported then straight into the fridge.
They dont have the normal cellophane wrapping.

Maybe in CT, not in Jhb.
Excluding the big chicken brands that might all be halaal.

We buy everything from Woolies. Including chicken, seafood and sometimes meat. Normal groceries we also buy from SPAR & P'nP.
Some P'nP, Woolies, Fruit & Veg City\Food lover's market and Checkers stock & get their Halal meat from known Halal butchers.

I mean they turn on the oven/firer/toaster then cut slices of ham or open a pack of bacon and make pork type food inside the shop.

Nope. Won't buy there. I think the replies above pretty much explains it.

But many of you do buy there (as can be seen above).

And they also have deli meats that get cut inside the shop.

I have seen many Muslims in our local Pick n pay.

Do you never ever buy any food from a spar, checkers, pick n pay or similar at all because they all sell these things and make these things inside the store.

Again, I will buy raw, packaged food that is certified. But not cooked food, as I do not know how/where it was prepared.

Buying it in a shop that prepares pork makes all that food non halal from what I understand...
Am I wrong?

I dont buy prepared meals or meat from these shops or their delis. I only buy groceries from them.
