I need one for the Toyota Hilux transponder key programming procedure. From what I read, I whack it with the wheel spanner after I've opened and closed the door 666 times, but before stand on one leg and turn the ignition on and off five times alternating between the old and new keys.

Or... some helpful oke with access to the Toyota Hilux workshop manual could PM me the actual procedure, and save me the R500 that Toyota wants to charge for key programming (and the gerbils life). The procedure I'm looking for is called "REGISTRATION OF ADDITIONAL MASTER KEY". It's a 1999, 2.7 petrol.

Thanks.

Glad you liked it, and only half of it is bull****. Programming procedures vary from bizarre to ridiculous. But sadly it didn't work; no helpful Toyota mechanic gave up the super secret programming procedure. I'll have to try Google again. :(

That procedure is spot on.

I know it's spot on, but where do I get the gerbil? <-- JK!

Section g, is that what you are looking for?

Unfortunately, that's for 2004+ Hiluxs, the key programming needs a diagnostic computer, and section G is for remote programming.

I should have said in the OP, this is to program a new transponder key, not a remote. I never even knew Hiluxes that old had transponder keys, but as I found out, a normal metal key will turn, but the engine won't start. Also, it seems like each model has their own procedure. I've tried two so far - neither worked.

Ha, old boy - that was a super post!!!! Loved the creativity :D

My bet? Tell Toyota you would like to book the key programming. Find out where your vehicle will be sent to and who will be workin with it. Then cancel. Go visit the workshop and the guys who would've done the job, ask them to help you out (slip them a hundred?).

Btw, you will still need to sacrifice the gerbil to appease the 'god of mechanics who can be bribed'. Though I hear he is pretty easy to appease....

Creativity? It's straight out the workshop manual. :)

I might take your advice on mechanic bribery though.

Anyway, I've got all my keys - two greys and two masters. One master is worn out, but I don't want to use my only other master key. I've also got the cut-but-not-programmed blank, obviously.

There might be locksmiths that know how to do this, so I might get one to do it if they're reasonably priced.
