I've been gettings tons of spam in Vodamail box - firstly e'cards and postcards and now 'videos'. All of the link to an IP (for example http:\\196.10.10.10.)

Where do they go and what do they do?

Not sure ... but do you wanna find out ... prob some Javascript viruses on there or robots that detect if you click on the link and which e-mail you used.

Well this isn't spamming the I'm worried about ... it's what the IP address does :/ I also thought a virus thing ....

eitai2001, I wasn't entirely serious. But my work involves building mail security systems, and I'm always looking to see what these guys are up top.

Dolby, yes, your concerns are understandable. Fortunately for me I don't use that virus prone OS, so I'm not worried. I have access to machines (legitimately) I can use to check out sites like these, and even if the spammer/scriptkiddy comes back to probe my IP, I'll know about it and probably gather enough information to notify his ISP.

I wouln't recommend trying it out if you don't really know what you're afer, what the risks are and how to deal with a cracker engagin you, but there are some simple ways to check out these sites without causing too much harm. Text mode web browsers (like lynx, for example) are quite useful. There is always the danger, that the link contains a string that will confirm that you received the mail. So again, don't try this at home.
