Ok so I'm looking for a place to get me a Huawei E220. I know Telkom has them for R1500 odd but is there anywhere thats cheaper? Oh yes, Im in the Durban area.

which 7.2 sticks? was looking at the e220 as it is firmware upgradeable to 7.2 and is the cheapest one i seen that is a decent make

did a google on it. do you mean the E180/k3520 ones? those look good and they about R200 cheaper but only place i found is a place in durban sells them with no warranty only a guarantee that they working on arrival and Im not so keen on that concept.

OK for anyone interested in one of these, the k3520 looks nice. looks like a memory stick, has a micro sd slot supporting up to a 4gb card so it can double as a memory stick i suppose.

Cheapest place I found one is at Nivo (www.nivo.co.za) R1275

yeah gumtree rocks.

But tell me, are you aware that telkom forces you to use their own e220 etc modems?

Since you posted in this section of the forums

Nope wasnt aware of that at all. Not too sure how they would go about that (not a hardware person) and from all the reports I have read, a lot of people have posted in this section stating how they used an old mtn e220 and are connecting fine.

So from what I can tell, if I went and got me a k3520 from nivo and got me a telkom sim then I can happily go ahead and connect since from all I know it is the device itself that gets network locked not the network that is locked to specific devices.

On a side note, I would frikken hate that job. Typing in device ID's into the network to mark them as allowed.

When I got mine [during the trial] I asked if it was network locked, and they say it isn't network locked for the device nor the "network device locked". I got the telkom one so I'm not sure either way.

Well I have been using an MTN E270 on Telkom 3G for the last 6 months.
