Does anyone know where to buy an "Explora Switch" ?
Its the one with 2 unicable outputs labelled A and B.

I am installing DSTV in an estate where the DSTV signal is distributed via fibre. Each house has its own fibre which connects to a GTU. This takes the place of the LNB. Its great for the architect of the estate because "dishes are ugly".

Up until now it was a simple solution to connect an Explora to the GTU using the "Expora Switch" which came with the Explora. But now Multichoice have stopped importing the switch and are trying to force everybody to change to a "smart LNB" (which has a Unicable output).

My problem is I cannot change to a "smart LNB" because there is no dish, and as yet I have not found a "Smart GTU" (which would have the unicable output).

If anyone knows where to buy them I will need about 50 of them!

I seem to remember seeing these at the Game I bought my Explora from. Otherwise try companies like Space TV or similar.

Did you try Ellies?

Sorry, I would have provided their number, but there website is extremely slow...

EDIT: 0861 101 099

Space tv didn't have stock a month ago said they might not be getting any more either as DSTV is punting the smart lnb.

Anyone else find a cheaper version ? - HD cabling want R800 - Now here's the thing.

I JUST moved into a brand new development with twin Sat feeds into 140 units, each tenant - including myself (if we want to use Explora's) will require the Explora SatCR switch since you cant exactly put your own SatCR/Unicable LNB on the shared dishes!

So why the heck did DSTV stop including the Explora switch with the new boxes ???

According to DSTV you can only purchase them from accredited DSTV installers - is this total market fixing or what - and R800 I mean
REALLY for that switch ?

Surely there must be cheaper alternatives out there ??

Opps sorry my mistake its R900!!!

Because you might want the LNB and not the switch. Everyone that buys an Explora, needs to buy either a DStv switch, or a Smart LNB... and because they don't know what you will need, it will be pointless to include it in the box. Pricing was R2499 - R2999, when the switch was included, before the LNB came out. Retail on a DStv switch is actually R699. Check with a DStv agent in your area.

The switch is not in use anymore...you have to buy the new LNB which is not included in the box

The switch is definitely still in use, just not included in the box. New generation switch is needed in most communal setups.

If I get a second hand one, will it still work or did they block access somehow if we use it?

Buy a new one at DStv, their agents, or one of the wholesalers (like Space TV).
