I recently moved to a new house in the tableview area in Cape Town. I decided to end my painful service from Telkom, mainly because of unnecessary line rentals, and also the who knows how long waiting period for an available port on the dslam..
So i then began going down my list of alternative internet access options. Being a big believer in the Neotel revolution my first thoughts were to wait for the launch, so now, after 3 months of waiting, its come and gone, and i find myself 150m outside the coverage area, gotta love old murphy..
So next is Iburst, no coverage, 3G, no coverage, barely even have cell fone signal.. Vodacom wimax, no coverage!!! So im starting to come to the conclusion that my lovely new home is internet inaccessible!
I then found a small wisp company that actually covers the area, for the small price of R650 for 3 gigs! and a R3500 installation fee! i mean come on.. I work for an IT support company, I know when im getting screwed..
Then a few minutes ago i read about Telkom wimax, i mean i knew about it, but was trying to stay away from the demonopoly, but to my surprise, found my street flooded with coverage on the Telkom wimax coverage map, and the price is actually really good, cheaper than adsl and alot cheaper than previously mentioned WISP..
So my major question to all myadsl folks is, can anyone suggest another access option that may apply to my situation, and/or, how is the Telkom wimax service? Im not a major gamer, but do alot of downloading, and also tons of video/audio streaming, i mean, having so few options on the table, maybe i shouldnt even be thinking about it, and should just do it
.. but any feedback from people using telkom wimax, such as installation waiting period, speed etc would be appreciated..
Thanks
