hello people, im hopin the gurus at MyBB can help me out.

I wanna get a laptop for my wife and the only place i know to get anything computer-like is Incredible Connection but after reading a lot of negative stuff about them here its obvious they are not the way to go.

unfortunately i suffer with neon light syndrome and only seem to know stuff in big malls. i went into IC the other day and their prices were crazy, so coupling that with bad service they have to be treated like the plague.

so the next question is where to now? could anyone share where they get their comp fix? highly appreciated guys.

To be honest, when it comes to laptops, Incredible Connection aren't bad. Their pricing is decent, especially if you catch something on special - good enough that they're often had laptops for sale at prices I can't even get from suppliers even though I'm a dealer. And in the couple of cases I've had to rely on IC's support, it wasn't bad either.

Perhaps we should then start by defining what exactly we are after. Do we need a laptop, or netbook, what is our budget, what is the primary use of the machine... give us more information, my good man.

And could we please cease and desist with using the word "lappie"? It just irritates me. Really. It actually makes my head want to explode. Thanks mate.

@plazma, apologies. take a migraine cocktail for my previous mentioning of the 'l' word.

well, she just uses the net and office. no gaming or heavy multimedia usage, apart from the odd video or mp3 but no editing or the sort. how ever she doesnt like small keypads or displays (ala eepc)

budget? around 5-6k

though im not really looking for hardware recommendations, just places where i could buy a laptop and get good service and support. however any recommendation is appreciated

I think you first have to figure out what exactly you want. Google some laptop specs until you find the right combination of price and features.

I also would not buy anything at Incredible - I would rather buy from some place like Matrix Warehouse, Chaos, or whatever large shop you have in your city.

There are many nice laptops for around R4999, if all you wanna do is docs and the net. It may also be worth waiting a while - there should be some very cool post-Christmas specials coming up.

Thanks for not mentioning the L-word again.
:p

+10000000000000000000000 for this, IC have some amazing specials, i will say i don't enjoy IC much but their laptop pricing on ACER products is often as good if not better than dealers.

This is one of the best deals i have seen spec wise though.

+1 to IC having good laptop prices.

The fujitsu siemens at makro arent too badly priced either.

I usually buy my laptop overseas though

I think IC is good with price because of the *zero* after sales service :-)

I dont think IC has good prices for anything else besides latops

Printers.

I wouldn't say that's fair. I've had to have two printers replaced, and an HP laptop repaired, and I was happy with the service. Printers were replaced on the spot, and the laptop took several days (they sent it to Tarsus), but they kept me up to date.

Give Makro a go - Bought my Fujitsu Siemens there over 2 years ago and it is still running like a charm..After sales service is also great I hear not to mention their laptops are very very reasonably priced.
