Where to get property plans?

As some know, I bought a house in West Beach..

Now - where can I get a copy of the building plans? The current owners are in Dubai, and aren't coming back.

I have a copy of their ID's and letter giving me permission - but have no idea where I actually get the plans?!
 
Yep, city council - should be the planning department ( if i remember correctly) take the ERF number with you, and I.D. Book, some R's to pay for copies.

Where you pay services (W&L's, municipality)
Yes
Varies, query with them. They charge per plan scanned/printed of fish

Yebo, The City development department or as we used to say the bulding inspectors, there where you apply for and hand in new building plans, specific for your area.

Building Plans for the City of Cape Town can be approved at the following offices:

Blaauwberg

Plans can be taken to:
Building Plans & Inspections at Pienaar Road, Milnerton.

Office hours:
Building plan submissions: 08:00 to 14:30

The planning office are now in Plumstead just next to the Checkers Hyper. (parking lot)
You have to fill in a form stating erf and reason and they will call you in about a week or two.

You can view the plan, but you can not get a copy. Take a camera.

Hopefully they won't have lost the plan in the mean time as they did to me, TWICE. The system there is hopeless, with bits of paper (plan pieces) on the floor and scattered over desks, things stored in shoeboxes and people making alterations with pen on existing approved plans etc.. ... chaos.
 
Thanks - Why can't you get a copy? won't an architect need a copy to make changes?

Did you manage to get your plans?
 
yip - in April/May - I eventually had to request the assistance of the City Ombudsman... as the counsil claimed to have had a storage problem and packed them in in unmarked boxes, and were unable to find them.
 
I'm in the process of buying a property, and according to the owner the plans have been lost by the council when they moved offices. Might have to take the same route as you.

Make it part of the offer to purchase - because if the council can't find them, you'll have to pay to have them redone.
 
thats nonsense... why should we pay for their negligence!
 
true, but they need to do their part as well. Up here in Durban its not such a mission because you can get your house plans almost overnight from the council without hassles. For those thats having issues getting plans from their council rather let your plan drawer / architect to get the plans from the council and get him to capture and give you a digital copy.
