Hi guys so i obtained my degree two years ago at maties. Studied BA Socio Informatics, i did a bit of php, html, css, javascript and SQL during the course (all the basics and not really the advanced stuff). I would like to know what courses can i take or what degree should i do through Unisa to become a database administrator or anything related to databases etc. I've been working for a year and a half as a data analyst, but not really working with databases etc. So basically what is the next step? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Well, my advice would be not to do course through UNISA, unless you are aiming to get a BSc or something similar... I would suggest rather looking at doing the courses that vendors such as Oracle and others offer. Doing a MySQL course through oracle will be far quicker to getting a qualification that is a marketable asset. Doing a course through the university IMHO will not be as recognized as something from Oracle.

Also are you positive that you want to work as a DBA? Since you have done some PHP, Javascript and HTML, would you not consider going the development route, such as web developer?

Oracle's web site can be a bit of a mission to navigate, but start with these links:
http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=402&p_nl=JMSQ

for more courses look at :

Thanx for all the feedback guys, much appreciated. I was going through some threads and saw some of the certifications guys are getting. A+, N+ etc. Would it be ideal for me to get those certifications?

I was thinking of perhaps going in the networking route, so CCNA and CCNP looks decent. Also ozzie if i wanna go the web devolper route, what and where should i further my studies?
