Quick question, I got my ADSL installed recently and the techie mentioned that I needed a microfilter. Now I know why I need this and what it does, but surely this should of been included as part of the installation???? When I asked the dude why he didnt have one for me he says that they only carry one with them. Before I get on the phone and waist and hour holding for telkom I wanted to know from the community if this is included as part of the installation cost R400 <cough> or whatever rediculous amount it is. If thats the case telkom owe me a microfilter.....and yes yes I know these things cost like R40

It should be I got one from the techie and another one included with my ADSL router.

Nope, I had to go out and buy 4. The techie said if you get your modem from Telkom, then they throw in one microfilter.

For R400 installation, there should be atleast four included.

Cheers, Nick

P.s If the customer care shop tells you that they don't have any, tell them to open up the boxes with the modems.

I ordered my modem with my dsl package and when the techie came to install he asked me where my modem was. I told him that I ordered the router from Telkom. He ended up giving me someone elses router that he said could wait until Monday when they get more stock. I took the router in the end and felt guilty for the person who had to wait until Monday.

Yeah well, I didnt want a stupid telkom modem. Got myself a nice wireless one. Guess I'll have to buy a filter then, cause none came with my modem

My first ADSL installation, withoud a router back in 2001 came with one filter and a surge protection kit.
My 3 installations since then have not included the filter nor a surge protection thing.
They change the rules whenever it suites them.

Surely surge protection and the filter is part of the line.
i.e. Their responsibility.
Well - that's what I think.

Had the same problem. You have to get your own if you don't buy the Telkom Modem (Which you should not). Good luck finding one.

Oh by the way, netgear includes a microfilter with the DG834GT (and probably others as well) but THESE DO NOT WORK with Telkom's setup. Apparently it is the European version, which uses the inside two pins, where we use the outside two pins (could be other way round!).

Cheers, Nick

NetGear's microfilter works

Either the 2-years old one or new one works great with Telkom line, please use the cables which come with the box!!

renm: Are you sure? Telkom techie told me otherwise (and he checked it!).

I'm using it right now, our clients use it, no reason not working.

But make sure you didn't get from oversea directly, I mean if you get it from local reseller, which is distributed by Duxbury

Hmmm... I didn't buy the router myself, got it from one of the IT guys at my dads office. Not sure where he got it from. But just tried it now, and no go.

Another thing I have noticed is that my voice line quality has deteriorated quite dramatically since ADSL installatoin. I have microfilters on each handset, but I can hear what I am saying through the earpiece. Any ideas?

Cheers, Nick
