Hi guys.

I'm getting a 7900GT for my cousin but I'd like to know which one to get. The choices are either the Asus 7900GT TOP or the XFX 7900GT XXX Edition.

Both are factory overclocked versions of their respective brand 7900GT. Now the only reviews that I can find so far are for the normal Asus and XFX 7900GT. And it seems that the Asus beats the XFX. Price for them are the same so that's not an issue.

The card will be fitted on a Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard with an AMD64 4000+ and 2Gigs of Kingston Value.

Personally I'm leaning towards the Asus cause having an Asus G-card on an Asus mobo sounds like the way to go.

Comments please.

*NOTE*

I don't need prices so don't give them.

Also try not to nominate a different G-card then the ones I mentioned since it's a choice between those two only.

Asus 7900gt Top: 520/1400
XFX 7900gt XXX: 560/1650

The XFX will out-perform the Asus.

They are all base cards, so there so no performance diff between brands. Your also not stuck for choice of bands in SA at this time.

Since they're all basically the same card, and the frame or 2 extra you get from the fac. oc isn't going to make any noticble difference to your gaming experience, I say just go for the cheapest one you can find.

Use the $ diff. to contribute to something else that can make a material diff. (e.g. better mouse, speakers, coffie mug, whatever).

The price dif is less than R100. But I think that I might as well go with the Asus. Performance won't make much of a difference, maybe 5 frames tops.

Asus will be the choice.

Thanx guys.

Or you can look for 'no frill' brands like Legend ... their 7900GT is up R1000 cheaper than the more popular names ... still the same card.

Oops your right ... misread the 9, but the general idea of finding a card from a lesser know brand can save you a lot of dosh.

well why are you going with kingston ram as opposed to corsair value select?

kingston surely isnt better than corsair

Why go with either when you can have OCz Value RAM ?

A pity I couldn't find this link earlier for you Toxin:

However, if you concentrate on looking at the difference between the stock clocked Asus and the XFX, you will see 5-15fps difference.
With clock speeds this high, you would expect overclocking to be non-existent, much like the eVGA. However, this wasn’t the case with the core happily overclocking to 590MHz and the memory to 900MHz
