Which antivirus to use

If you decide to go with ESET, don't get anything less than their Smart Security or you won't get the firewall.

Kaspersky is the best available and very well priced, so obviously you should try go with that.

Avoid Bitdefender and Avast like the plague.

Has a poorly made firewall, requires excessive user intervention to achieve acceptable security, has the worst customer support in the industry and performs averagely in independent comparison tests.

It's just not nearly as secure as Kaspersky, ESET or Norton. Why compromise when there are outstanding products available?

Kaspersky. I used to use BitDefenter then ESET. Kaspersky still remains the best.

Incredible Connection has Kaspersky Internet Security for just under R300.

Use Free Sophos on Macs. Use ESET AV on Windows machines. I think all of these premium AVs are the same. Each year one overtakes the rest in ratings but in real world performance, it probably means jack.

ESET - Czech

Nope. They do offer differing degrees of protection. Kaspersky and Norton are the best two. And with only a couple of exceptions, Bitdefender being the most popular of them, they're all sufficiently light on resources to not worry.

OK, thanks everyone for your advice. After doing more research verifying your comments I settled and bought Kasperski Pure. ESET also got good ratings so I eventually decided based on the price. I like the fact that you can set Kasperski to run in the background when your PC is in idle mode or the screen is locked. I've noticed no difference in PC performance.
