Hi everyone

I own a web development company and we host the websites we design ourselves. I know ADSL is not the best solution to host on, but we've found that Internet Solutions Uncapped ADSL over Fibre has worked pretty well up to now.

I need to set up a new hosting server at one of our new branches now, but this new branch only has a R1000 / month budget. I'll need about 6GB international bandwidth and about 10GB local bandwidth a month for the new branch. I'm currently looking into getting a 4Mbps line from Telkom, I know it only allows for 512Kbps uploads, but that's ok, we seem to get by on that. Which service provider would you recommend that will fit into the R1000 bracket that will offer fairly good speed. Internet Solutions is a bit too expensive for this one.

Thanks

Sorry but are you looking at a static IP on that budget too?

You also say 6GB int and 10GB local. Since your hosting it might be tad hard to distinguish the traffic so rather work on 16GB int. You could try Axxess as it will come to R1K on prepaid. Else give that Afrihost a go if you can still get it.

At our office we switched to prepaid as it is the most convenient - too many other packages had fair-usage policies in place.

Just had a look at our recent bandwidth activity and last month we only used 8GB in total. Do you think I can get a static IP, decend speed and 8GB for under R1K? Is Afrihost / Axxess any good?

To be hounest, if you want to offer any Quality of Service then get into a hosting facility. Its not cheap but worth it.

Unless your using your current server to demo sites still in development, this is not wise.

The best bet is to personally contact SPs but I your R1K budget will only meet your bandwidth needs.

Thanks for the info. Yeah it's only for demo puposes - we normally host with IS once the product has been developed, tested and signed off.

I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they have to say.
