Which car? Opel vs Mazda vs BMW

I'm open to suggestions on other cars as well.

Budget may go up to R175k.

Looking for something with decent performance, good servicing & dealership support, and looks.

Which Subaru did he get and what's a Mach 5 FSi?
 
Stay away from Opel. After-sales service is putrid and a service for a 1.4i Opel Corsa Club with no electric windows or airconditioning costs over R2500.
 
I see a 320i (2006 model) on autotrader for R140k, with only 60k mileage thus 40k remaining on motorplan. Private sale.

My friend says that banks will not finance any purchases from private sales, only from dealerships?:(

Not true, in a way.

My first two cars were private sales my friend's dealership bought in for me at the agreed price, between I and the seller.

Perhaps I'm just lucky.

But that may an avenue to consider if you know someone.

Many dealerships would consider this for a small surcharge, even without knowing someone. They purchase the car from the seller, add a bit to the price for the 'service' of providing the finance and from-a-dealer 'peace of mind' and sell it back to you.

It's money for nothing for them...

Tis true, even I got charged R2.5k and less on the 2nd one.
 
BMW - mine is out of motorplan and the maintenance is not expensive.
I waste all my money keeping my Audi A4 running

I would obviously say get something with an Alfa badge...but you probably like Opels so its your guess...

For R150k you have a good range of cars, like I say, go for what you like...YOU like,

I like the Subaru idea, too many Opels on the road anyway LOL...

BMW - HIGH maintenance, like a girl from Sandton!

Do what you want dude, get what you like...
 
As other have said, I wouldnt consider a BMW without a M/Plan unless its at a really crazy price. Also look at other options to save, e.g. auctions

However if you have your heart set on one, shoot me a PM - I know someone selling theirs at a very reasonable price (M/plan included) and financing arranged.
 
enigma, why not Opel?

My revised list:

- Opel corsa 1.4 lite (R55,000)
- Opel Astra 1.6 (2007) - ~R110,000
- Opel Astra 1.8 GTC turbo (2007) - ~R160k
- Hyundai i20 (R150k)
- Subaru Impreza 2.5l (2005 model) - R110,000
- Alfa 147 (not a fan of the look)

I'm looking for a car that I can re-sell very quickly (important) or get a good trade-in value for, must have service plan, reliable, good enough for driving all around JHB.

No specific reason - Rouxenator is just the resident Opel fanboi, so an opportunity for a jibe more than anything else... :D

soulman, I worry mainly about one thing wrt your list - car buying 101: decide on a budget first. You're spanning more than R100k there! :eeK:

Take the Cosa Lite and invest the 110k in my slush fund :D

That was actually my point as well...if you have that much money to burn, buy the cheapest one and invest the rest!!
