Which component?

I got a Samsung B650 TV last night and connected my components like : http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/showphoto.php/photo/12784/size/big/cat/500

Each omponent goes to an HDMI input on the amp, and a single HDMI to the TV. This is exactly how the components were connected to my previous TV and everything worked perfectly.

Now, unfortunatly, the DVD player doesn't work correctly :/ The Xbox 360 and TViX seem to have no issues - but the minute I select DVD, the DVD player shows DVI and no sound/upscaling takes place.

If, however, I connect the DVD player directly to the TV - it picks up the HDMI signal and upscaled picture/sound go to the TV.

I'm having slight difficulty working out the culprit - because a) everything used to work b) The DVD player works when directly connected and c) The TViX and Xbox 360 work via HDMI. It *could* be a 1 in 1,000,000 chance with my combination of components :/

Any idea's?

We have a lot of compatibility issues with Samsung TV's on switching equipment, splitters and extenders for HDMI. The Chinese supplier of this equipment asked one of his techies to explain this to us. This is what he said:

Since we start to sell the splitter that got certain issue for some TV, especially for Korea system. After we do a series of testing, we found some of the Korea TV for Samsung or LG's having the problem to send the HDMI singnal to do the handshake. In other words, there is not a true HDMI singnal and we viewed them as a similar one.

So, after some of the Taiwanese manufacturer found the problem, for the problem, the chipset maker made some new chipset for them.

I've got no idea what the above means, but I think maybe your Samsung is not happy with the way that your receiver is relaying the HDCP handshake.

What screen did you have before?

An LG plasma, actually ... it was 2 years old.

This new Samsung has only been released a few months ago - so should have the new chipset.

I also suspeted a handshake issue ... so perhaps - hopefully - a firmware upgrade can solve things?

The other issue that has been brought up before, is a plug detect problem. I can't really help you with an exact explanation, because everything I found on the web is pretty vague.

Marantz technical phoned me now and said there is often an issue with HDMI ports - especially on LG LCDs' He's a little surprised a 2009 Samsung has issues though :/

He said although there is a standard, not everyone follows it 100% (as can be seen on Google) and handshakes/HDCP/encryption issues often plagued earlier models.

They're going to upgrade the firmware on the Marantz amplifier and see if that helps. I'll probably do it next week.
