Which CPU?

I'll take that as I think it is intended.

Cause most benchies I saw the x2 3800+ (R2400) is comparable performance wise to a Pentuim D 940 (3,2GHz, R3500) in games and even encoding...

Fixed my post ;) :D

Not that I am anti-Intel, they just normally don't have the best value (performance vs price), I'm looking forward to what conroe and Intels large manufacturing capabilities can do.

thanks for all the replies.
So it looks like i will go for a 3800+. I am just hoping i have no hassels gaming!

The 4400+ is a bit much for me atm, but otherwise ja, i would have gone for it.

and another thing. How would i overclock it? I hear that it is such a good overclocker but i have no idea how.I am a complete newbie as far as overclocking goes. Is there like a utility or something? and how will i know when i am pushing it too much? I dont feel like buggering up a expensive chip

on 3DMARK05 CPU test:

Relative difference between Athlon 64 3800+ and Athlon 64 X2 4400+: 11.79 % Absolute difference between Athlon 64 3800+ and Athlon 64 X2 4400+: 650

R1000+ difference for a 12% performance increase - mmm

very useful tool - check it out (link in my previous post)

*EDIT*

another interestin comparison:

Relative difference between Athlon 64 3500+ and Athlon 64 FX-57: 18.41 %

Price differential - about R5000

mmm

Well, tell me what motherbaord you will be getting, and i'll get the info on it from the net and help you step by step through PM...

Could you help me with the overclocking as i am also quite a noob at this? I have the 4400+ and Asus A8N-SLi Premium MB.

There should actually be a sticky thread just for overclocking imho.

On other forums there are actually such threads and I didn't and still dont find them very helpful cause it seems nearly every motherboard BIOS has different layout and terms for the same things.

So I'd rather take a one-on-one approach. The motherboard details are necessary so I can download the online manual and check out the motherboard BIOS options and know whats going on and what you would see on your screen :)

Feel free to PM me, if I dont respond almost immediately its cause I'm away from home/office.

Its great to be your own boss, I can surf myadsl whenever I want ;)

4400+does not give best price/performance ratio. Yes its very fast and at 2.6GHz its a lightining fast FX-60 for less than half the price. However, it is twice the price of a 3800+.

Overclocking? The 10X multi is okay, but that also depends on what motherboard you have. If you have an ECS motherboard (eg KN1 extreme) then your maximm overclocks will be limited by the mothebroard that fails to go over 250MHz or so. So that's a 2.5GHz maximum overclock.
Where as if you had an 11 multi like the 4200+ you'd be able to go to 2.75GHz (CPU n Cooling allowing as always). So what that means is that you had better get a good motherboard that will allow you to go over 250MHz if you buy a 3800+ and you plan to overclock.
You don't need such a great board if you have a 4200+.

Difference between 3800+ and FX-60 will not be worth the price in games, but if you benchmark and the like then the FX-60 is miles ahead of the 3800+. So depends what you want to do.

I'd get the 4200 If I were you. Or if 4K isn't too mch for a CPU for you, then a 4400+ would be great. In media encoding it almost matches the 3800+ @ 2.6GHz while the 4400+ runs stock speed.

yeah, i am a nooB as far as overclocking goes so you definately wont see me pushing even 15% on it. I think i will stick with the 3800+, i have heard nothin but good stuff bout it.

I could possibly go for the 4400+ but i dont think that i can sped R4k on CPU alone.
