I have a Q8300 and would like to know which CPU's would be replacing this class..

AMD or Intel doesnt matter ..

Thanks :)

There is the Intel i5 series. Upgrading to an i3 won't make much of a difference.

On AMD side, there is the FX range. FX6300 (FX6350), and upwards, would be a good replacement.

If you are deciding to upgrade, get Intel.

If you can wait for the bf 4 mantle benchmarks in december it would help big time, less cpu usage meaning you could a buy cheaper cpu and invest in a bigger gpu.

I know you cannot always wait and wait for technology but mantle benchmarks would be worth waiting for. Sometime in december and should mantle be a success you should expect people to be buying less expensive cpu's and more expensive gpu's. I am just waiting for mantle to whether i need to upgrade my 920 or not.

If i was too upgrade now though i would buy a 8350 or 8320 from amd plus mobo :D

huh, never heard of mantle till you mentioned it.

Sound quite interesting, since my PC is needing an upgrade soon, looks like i need to be patient for a few more months.

Not for a few months, only perhaps 30-40 days. Worst case scenario if i was you is wait for 1st of jan unless amd release the bf 4 mantle patch within the next month but buy rush into anything right now and i know technology changes and waiting is not generally a good thing but mantle is literally a 30-40 days away and we don't know the effect it will have or the benchmarks it will produce but it's worth waiting for.

Even if you don't play bf 4 if mantle is a success on bf 4 is will become the standard in majority of the new games so it really is worth waiting for. They can finally get around the limitations of dx and people may disagree with me and say you cannot wait for technology but i think anything that could revolutionize gaming in less than 2 months is worth waiting for. As mentioned that is only my opinion, by no means am i correct and i am not stating that is the only option you have.

Dude, is GForceD even into gaming? He didn't mention anything.

But me.... I can't wait for Mantle!!! Hope it changes PCs and gaming for the better! It's either going to be a game changer or a worthless tech that will die out in a year.

Core 2 quad 8300
Radeon HD7850
775 MSI Mboard
6GB 1333MHZ ddr3

i play bf3 just fine, but aiming for bf4 soon though..

i went on some benchmarks seems the fx-8320 is best bang for your buck, and its cheaper than the i5 4670k,and it's doing on the benchmarks as well :O

This confirms your a gamer :p

Something to remember about the American/UK benchmarks and the South African market is the price. They base their decisions on performance, features and price compared to the other components. While the performance and features will stay the same, the price is no where near that of ours. If they had to work on our pricing, I think they won't suggest the FX-8320 over the 4670k. PCFormat had a few reviews of the similar CPUs. Always came down to the i5 k series. However, for tighter budgets, the FX6350 would be better.

What was the bench you looked at for? Hyper-threading?

Just remember, most games don't utilize all the cores of the CPU (that has only started to happen lately). Go look for reviews on gaming, especially for comparison between the 8 core AMDs and Intel i5 4670k or 3570k. See what that performance levels comes to.

With R3k, I'd guess the FX6300 series and AMD mobo of around R1000-R1400 would suffice. If you can find a retailer that sells the FX6300, take it above the FX6350.

Bare in mind for some rigs hyperthreading actually results in worse bf 3 and 4 performance and you will get microstutter with or without a dual setup.
