We're shifting the hardware in our offices around and I'd like to put together the best two PCs out of the available components. Which two of these three would be best?
  • Pentium 4 631 3GHz
  • Celeron 430 1.8Ghz
  • Celeron D360 3.46Ghz
Is it as simple as looking up the PCMark score on http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ or is there anything else to consider (I'm not sure if those scores are standardised in some way). For interest's sake their scores are 362, 484 & 347 respectively.

Go for the Celeron 430, it's a better and cooler-running chip than the other two. The others can't really hold a candle to it. There's also a big difference when you're comparing Netburst and Core architecture in terms of throughput. The single core will hamstring performance quite a bit though when you get to multi-tasking, so if there's any applications you use in the office that can take advantage of GPU acceleration, consider buying a cheap GPU to go with it.

As for the Netburst chips, use the Pentium 4 631. Its not ideal, but it does employ hyper-threading.

Thanks! That helps a ton.
