Hi,

I have ADSL at the moment, but I would like to get 3G intenet (as backup or when I travel). I would like to know which network (Voda, MTN, Cell C, 8ta or Virgin) offer the most affordable (cheapest) prepaid 3G internet. I dont care about speed, I want a download speed of at least 100kb/s.

Thanks

The 8ta 60GB+60GB is decently priced and if you are in the coverage area the speeds are decent as well.

Coverage will be your deciding factor. Vodacom's coverage is the best, but 8ta is the cheapest on add hoc bundles. Vodacom's 1 GB for R99 x 24 on topup or contract is also a very good offer.

Prepaid at VC is EXPENSIVE!

I wanted to start a new thread, but I will join in here...

WHY ON EARTH is Vodacom's prepaid 1GB bundle R279? OOB rates at R2/mb!

As ajax mentioned you can get 1GB for R99 on a 24month contract. Both MTN and VC is offering a 2GB bundle PLUS a free modem for R149 over 24months... MTN's OOB rates is 29c/BM on this deal...

I understand that a contract is better business for them, but paying nearly 3times the price on prepaid is crazy!

I though prepaid was the way to go and will be to the benefit of the poor? Not in this case!

Also on 8ta is the 2GB (+1GB "midnight owl") for R149.

I hate including the night owl part as it's not practical for everyone.

they don't care about the poor. its business. they are riding everyone hard for a profit. 8ta is the most economical at the moment.

@akescpt I hear what you say and I fully agree...

I just don't understand why prepaid is so expensive... Even 8ta @R200 per GB on prepaid is still double what you can get it for on contract...

So it is clear that we are paying too much on PrePaid...

200 per gig? 2+1 is 149. The best value is the 60+60

The 3GB for R149 on prepaid sounds like a very good deal. I wont use it all the time, just something I can use when I travel. How much does it cost to move your number from a network to 8ta? I was thinking of moving my current number to 8ta to reap in that deal.
