Hi,

I'm sure there's plenty of threads like this, but I'm hoping someone can help me out. My family is on a wireless 5gig a month account from iBurst. The reason we're on wireless is because the estate we live in didn't think it necessary to install a Telkom line, so we're stuck with slow speeds from iBurst. I'm often looking around the internet for better deals, and I found this http://www.thebroadbandbible.co.za/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/TheBroadbandBible.pdf and I don't know if I'm missing something here, but iBurst seems really expensive compared to these other ISPS!

So I hope someone can help me. There's so many types of ISPs with so many different deals that I can't understand half of it. Ideally we would like 512kbps speed (which would download 1mb in 3-4 seconds, right?) and 8gig a month. What would be the best deal, and how much would we pay per month?

Thanks
Devon

If you can do your self a huge favour and stay away faaaaaar away from Iburst. Maybe go thourgh some of the post first on these Forums and read for your self, you proberly better off going dialup

Which service is better than iBurst? Can dialup work without a Telkom line?

Sorry to say if you cant get any kind of hard line your fooked, You could maybe speak to telkom or screamer (i think thats there name) about there wimax and see if there is signal out your way but i would stay away from iburst and neotel is just not worth the hassel

If you on iburst already check your conection speed you should be averaging at least 500kbps, (I average about 700/800kbps) the maximum 1Mbps is posible but not very often i have gotten it a couple of times.
without a telkom line your prety much stuck with iburst, other options are screamers wimax, but from what i read they none the beter then iburst, and Vodacom / mtn 3g but then again wirelss cant compre to a wired conection with regard to latency.
also on adsl remeber some of the cheaper uncapped options dont give you high speeds, (probaly 128 to abuot 384kbps) the real nice speed of 1Mbps and higher will cost you an arm and a leg depending on service provider, but yes still cheaper then iburst.

Thanks :-) Screamer seems alright but there's so many contrasting opinions about it, that I'd rather not try it. iBurst may be expensive but I at least know they're reliable. Thanks for the help!
