Hey gamers, simple Q for the day, just out of curiosity on the numbers, which one do you prefer 1st person or 3rd person & why ?
I play majority RPG's so love me some 3rd person action (Elden Ring, HFW etc.). Not a big fan of shooters & I assume most of the good ones are 1st person & they never entice me much - oh and the fact that I cannot aim for s#&*t with a gun. The last 1st person game I played was Dishonored 1

Depends on the game, I certainly play more than one genre so there's no preference for either.

Also not a fan of shooters generally

Prefer action/adventure type games which are usually 3rd person as well

Depends on the type of game...

First person for obviously FPS games and simulation racers
3rd person for action, adventure, platform, ARPG and arcade racers
Isometric for RTS and ARPG games
Role playing games a mix of First and 3rd Person

Do games still allow you to choose?
I heard you can play No Man's Sky in either 1st or 3rd & I wanted to check if that is indeed the case , because I want to play it if I can play in 3rd p, I thought it was only 1st p

I'm playing NMS 3rd person on PC.

Depends on the game. Love both. In games like Fallout or Elder Scrolls where you can switch between 1st or 3rd person I always play in 1st person though. I find it impossible to play those in 3rd person for some reason.

Aiming is always better in 1st person.

On the other hand, I can't imagine playing a BioWare game for example in 1st person.

people that play racing games in "3rd person"/chase view

First person, because that’s most immersive. Obviously compromises have to be made for the sake of mechanics but everything that can be first person, should be first person.

Comes down to how the game plays.
Fallout 3 and New Vegas for example I preferred third person. Played better that way. The first person in those games were not great due to choppy weapon animations, but in third person the games are great.

Then came Fallout 4 and suddenly it was the other way round. I don't know how Bethesda managed it, but the third person sucks in 4. but then, the first person is great. It is clear that they designed the game for first person.

So basically, the perspective comes down to how the developer designed the game, even games that offer choice. One perspective will always play better than the other depending on what the developer intended.
