In your head...
So following on from my homeloan/personal loan query before and the recommendations to get a tax clearance certificate. I headed on down to SARS to see what I needed along with all my documents. I work online as a freelance developer and get paid via my Singaporean PayPal account and use my Singaporean Bank's ATM card to withdraw money here which I then deposit into my ABSA account (R25000 every month and the rest I leave in my Singaporean Bank account). SARS understood all of this as I haven't been a tax resident for almost 10 years and only moved back 5 months ago. They will issue a tax clearance certificate, but they said I must open a South African PayPal account and start getting my earning paid into there directly for the coming tax years.

So now I'm at the point where I must go and open an FNB account linked to PayPal. Now reading online some people have said that a simple FNB Easy Account works fine and others say that only a Cheque Account works. I was with FNB ages ago, but closed the account when I left SA.

So does anyone actually know what FNB account I should open?

You don't need an FNB Account. Just an FNB profile that can forward to your own bank.

Therefore if you want to go FNB any account will do.

As for a South African PayPal account don't quote me on this but I'm not sure such a thing actually exists and it ultimately is linked to the country for the account/card it gets linked to.

Cheque account is for purchasing via paypal. Since cheque card can be used as a credit card on paypal (visa).

R5 fnb account will work to receive money and eft it to absa account. The paypal fees (or fnb fees) is slightly more using fnb.

I tried setting up an online FNB profile so I could simply use my ABSA account, but it gave me errors. Researching Google shows that because I previously had an FNB account I cannot use this method and must open another FNB account :-(

I won't be sending money via PayPal on the account, just withdrawing to my account.

Just contact FNB to resolve it then instead if copping out and getting an account.
