Which free standing gas stove

We are moving to a new property soon, previous owners taking their free standing gas stove with them..

What should we be looking at in terms of features and brands for purchasing a new free standing gas stove..?

Already told the wife we won't be buying Smeg, as that seems like you are paying just because it says Smeg..

I have an AEG 5 burner I bought 4 years ago. Still good. Luxury division of Electrolux, if I'm not mistaken.
 
I've been really happy with Elba.

Had a Smeg before (loaner from my brother) and replaced it with the Elba - no complaints, no feeling like I've downgraded etc.

Would buy again.

If I were you I'd check:

a) does it use an electricial ignition switch (to light) as that's annoying as F during loadshedding, of course I could go find a lighter but it's inconvenient

b) do you need an electrical oven or gas?

a) good point, this is what I am looking for I'm terms of suggestions for features to look out for..

Legs on mine seem fairly sturdy but we don't slide it around the kitchen on a whim.

When it comes to appliances we have a general rule - whomever is going to use it the majority of the time gets first choice. I chose the smeg.
 
Bought smeg. I wouldn’t do so again quality is not up to scratch. Had a few bit that I had to retighten with screwdriver and spanner.

Not something you expect to do at that price point in less than a year or purchase.

Don't move them... My brother did and his glass shattered :ROFL:


I've got one of these - legs are plenty stable.

Pro tip - I ordered mine from Mason's in JHB (far cheaper than CPT) and they just couriered it from a local CPT warehouse anyhow iirc. Check them out, their pricing and service was insane (think our equivalent of Tygerberg furnishers).

60cm or 90cm?

Also in the market for a new gas/electric stove and considered a 90cm but how often do you really cook for more than 6 people and the extra electricity isn't worth it for me.
 
We had Electrolux for many years and it was great. Then bosch which I was happy with.
SWAMBO decided to replace it with Smeg.

Of all 3 I would say smeg is worst. Feels cheap and thin. Signs disappeared long time ago and LCD is broken.

I was initially eyeing a 90cm, but then started thinking the extra large oven might end up using considerably more electricity to warm up and cook vs a 60cm..
