Hi all

The SO has an option between a POLO 1.9TDI and a GOLF5 1.6 Trendline.

Currently she has a POLO 1.9TDI and loves the car. Enough power and light on fuel. The GOLF5 is only 1.6 and fuel will prolly be a concern as well.

Lets say for this exercise they both cost the same and have +- 20000km on the clock.

So my question is go for the bigger car, less power and fuel, or get another smaller one with better power and fuel?

I'd go for the Golf. Although it has less power and worse fuel economy, it's a lot nicer to drive and more comfortable.

So she had a Polo 1.9TDI and looking at perhaps another? A different colour, hopefully :P

Yes another TDI and another colour. :)

We have driven down to DBN a few times and there was no comfort issue.

Why doesn't she just drive both and buy the one she likes better?

Her mother has got a GOLF5 1.6 Automatic. The only thing she like about her moms car is its automatic otherwise it doesn't appeal to her....

How bout something other than VW?

I told her to get a new Toyota 4x4 bakkie. Chicks in bakkies is just sooooooo...... yummy. :) (The sexy one's not the fugly's mkey)

But no... She only has an option between the 2 cars mentioned. :o

I think the Polo is the smart choice here. Better fuel economy, better performance (I think) and it's not that much smaller than the golf with respect to legroom etc.

Def the Polo...Have you driven the Golf5 1.6? Honestly....I can run faster.....Also I think the new Golf 6 will be launched this year. Also the new polo. The latest car mag shows what new models will be launched and when. Have a look at that. Also keep in mind that Car prices will prob increase with 25% by year end.....
Insurance on VW is high....as they are high risk vehicles. Maybe look at something else. Could save you a bit of cash.
My partner has a Polo worth R145 000 and insurance was R500..he now has a car worth R200 000 and insurance is the same.
I do like the polo esp. the 1.9 TDI...

Take the Polo. The only Golf 5 that's cool is the GTI.

260k for a VW... just feels so wrong!! SEAT all the way... hahaha... yes yes I know... but I really do love the car. Such a pity they won't be around anymore.

+1

Why not wait for the new Mk6?
Cause it is cheaper to manufactur yet pricier to buy and so much more of the same boringness that is Volkswagen. Buy a Merc, BMW or Opel for half the price.

SEAT ?! Are you smoking a rebadged Dagga Zol with a bit of petrol sprkinled over it or something? I suppose next thing you are gonna say is Ohh, sorry - I meant a Skoda. Same thing - it is just more synonyms for boring which is a synonym for Volkswagen.
