Morning

My gts 8800 died this weekend after 4 years of great service. :(.
Which GPU at < R1,500 should I replace it with while still being able to consider it an upgrade? (as a silver lining)

My internet at work is too slow to search for benchmarks.

edit: The guy at the shop phoned me, and recommended a palit gtx 440, which I suspect is not very good.

6850 should be very close to that. If not then 6790.

Even a R1000 card would be significantly faster than it. A 6850 will blow it out the water.

Anything GTS 450 and above will faster than your old card.

It would either be the HD6790 / HD6850 or GTX460 - in ascending price order.

You should be able to get an HD6790 for under R1400 (excl shipping, but incl. VAT), where as the other cards will be more than R1500. There is a VTX3D HD6850 for R1499 at Wootware, but it's currently out of stock IIRC.

Brands only really matter if you looking to OC, thats why u could get the Twin Frozr, or the Direct CU etc. I've owned the VTX3D 6870 (ran it stock) with absolutely 0 problems for 10 months straight.
I now own the VTX3D 6970 and its the same story. Fantastic performance, fantastic price, 0 problems.

I found a 5830 for R950 - that's a pretty good deal. It's a pretty fast card.

lol :) wouldn't pay much for it baked, i have and old 8800 gtx that i've baked twice now, the first baking lasted about 6 months, the second about 2.5 months....
