Which Hard Drive should I buy?

I want to buy a new hard drive to replace my old Seagate 400gb that clicks more than my mouse does. Its been clicking like this for the past 2 years, so it might fail next week or it might fail 5 years from now. I'm not sure if I'm going to use the new drive as a boot drive for Windoes 7 or just to store movies.

Anyway, I've been reading some reviews on Newegg and I cant decide whether I should buy Seagate or Western Digital.

I'm willing to pay around R 800 - R1200
Looking for 1TB to 1.5TB
Sata II, No clicking, no failing, no noise, etc

Links and long winded replies welcome. :)
 
Well Makro have a 2TB external going for R1299, pretty good price. You could either swap out your 400Gb and put the 2TB in your system, or keep it as an external but copy important stuff off the 400.

this is a good idea. replace your internal HDD with a new one, then get an external case for your old drive. Terabyte drives HDD's are becoming increasingly cheper every day, you wont need to spend more then R1000 if you shop correctly
 
+1 for the black edition.
They are slightly noisier than the green and blue but perform better. And no clicking :) my external Seagate also does the random clicking.. But only like once or twice a week..
 
WD or Seagate. WD maybe better than Seagate, although I've had nothing but good experiences with Seagate over the past 7 years.

Whichever you can find the cheapest on the day!

But definitly make the new drive your boot drive and put your OS on it. Working with the only copy of your OS on what you think is a dodgy drive is just plain stupid.

It is simple to switch the boot drives in the BIOS at start up time.

Nono, I've got Windows 7 RC on a different drive (not the clicky 400gb seagate), I want to switch to the retail version on Windows 7 , I'm just too lazy to re-install everything again.

I heard some bad things about Seagate when I bought my 1TB a year ago, though it hasn't failed on me yet.
When I went to Newegg to check reviews on WD I saw that the drive I was interested in also had a bunch of bad reviews..which is why I posted here.
 
Careful with All-in-One drives from manufacturers, esp WD. If the PC board goes and the drive still spins you will not be able to recover the data if attached as a slave to a PC. I prefer to buy my external housing and then add my choice of HDD to it and let Windowz take care of it.
