I have a choice between 3 headunits, all in the same price range, and all with USB inputs.
Which would you choose?

1. Sony GT450U - Specs from sony.com Price: R800

2. Pioneer DEH2350 - Specs from pioneer.com Price: R800

3. LG LCS500UR - Specs from lg.com Price: R750

I would like a headunit with a direct iPod connection, but I dont want to spend more than R800 and there dont seem to be decent ones with ipod connections at that price. So I have narrowed it down to these that will at least play off of a flash drive.
Any opinions will come in handy.

Pioneer. Have you looked at the Kenwood KDC-248U as well? At $100 it's going to be a stretch.

I would firstly not touch the LG.

I would also recommend the Kenwood. Awesome head units.

I would go with the Pioneer.

+1 I've had a Poineer for nearly six years now and everything is still working flawlessly. The only problem with it is the paint that is starting to come off the volume knob but that's a minor considering it's so old.

Whatever happened to Alpine? Back in the day they were the dogs bollocks, have they taken a dive as you don't hear or see much of them anymore?

Well I would recommend the Sony. I'm not sure about the others but I have a Sony and it's awesome!

I've always used Sony.
I recently got a Pioneer, very much top of the range and it can't even compare to the basic Sonys. Sony is still the best IMO.

Att Ponder. Alpine is now quite a premium product, higly rated and very expensive, catching up to Rockford Fosgate league.

Ah and there I thought they took a dive, shot for the enlightenment.

Thanks for the input guys, I need to get this done tomorrow (and I can get all 3 of those models easily tomorrow), so its between the Sony and the Pioneer.
I'm leaning towards the pioneer though.

Whats the reason for avoiding the LG? I saw an advert today for a higher speced (LSC600) model at game for R800 as well.
When it comes to TV's they are a decent brand, so whats the problem with their headunits?

I have an Alpine in my car, was pricey but well worth it.

As for LG, I dunno, when you weighing up the big guys in audio, LG seems to be at the bottom of my list anyway.

You wont go wrong with either the Sony or the Pioneer. It comes down to personal preferance. I would take the 1 that can scrole through files.

Where are you getting these head units at this price? I would go for the Sony first and then Pioneer. Looking for one myself.

I would say get the one that levels out the output of Mp3 files, I think the Sony does that.
Plays all MP3s regardless of quality at a single output, so you dont blow your speakers or play with the volume knob all the time... which is what I do with my Pioneer atm :(

I have 6 sources and have to manage it all with one volume setting, radio, cd, usb, sd, ipod, video and btooth. I would have preferred each source has its own volume/equalier setting.... but nooo.

Get the Sony.

Diamond...lol i would go for Pioneer...

Many people associate LG with crap...LG owns, if there is one company that stood the test of time, it's LG. There products are cheap but they incorporate every high end feature that other products have.

plus the LG he is talking about has BT, USB and the rest that the other units have.

ok the LG is not the same model i saw the weekend, so no BT
