I'm not much of an audiophile, so any help is appreciated!! I'm looking for a starter 5.1 system, but will consider anything at +\-15k

I started considering a sound bar setup (for simplicity) but soon realized that a proper av amp plus speakers is a better way to go. I have so far narrowed it down to either the onkyo hts7705

Or the Yamaha rxv379 plus harman kardon hkts16bq

I'm attracted to the Dolby atmos with the onkyo but not too sure to be honest. I will consider any other options as I'm a complete noob with sound!!

whatever system you choose when you get the system make sure you don't use those crappy downloads get a blu ray player and get an original blu ray movie for the proper picture and sound.

you need to go and listen and see what sounds great for your ears...can get expensive very expensive.

thanks will do so!

A Yamaha RX-V475 and a Mission MV8-e cinema pack.

You should be able to get away with a Jamo S626 package (5.0) and an entry level avr (e.g. yamaha rxv-375/7/9) for aprox R15k
I organized this setup for my future-parents-in-law and they were blown away (coming from a sony HTIB).
