In the name of science, entomologist Justin O. Schmidt has allowed himself to be stung by a multitude of insects in the order Hymenoptera, which includes bees, wasps, ants, and sawflies. He has used his data to create the Schmidt Sting Pain Index, which rates the relative pain of the stings on a scale from 1 (mild pain) to 4 (extreme pain). Schmidt’s original index, from 1983, rated only one example of pain level 4, the sting of the bullet ant. Schmidt described the sting as

… pure, intense, brilliant pain … like walking over flaming charcoal with a three-inch nail embedded in your heel.

I was stung by a swarm when I was young. Chowed into my neck and back.

I had a similar episode as a kid. I was told to cut back a hedge growing over the carport. Being somewhat grumpy about the task and looking for a shortcut, I used a grass slasher to try to trim it back.

What I did not know was that wasps had colonised beneath the surface. I soon learned of their presence when they came out to push back the intruder. lol, what an experience that was

I was using a hose to clean the wall I was kicking a ball against and I went up and hit the nest hanging from the garage. Luckily I managed to drench most of the fookers before they got to me.
