Which is better?

They're both very good. Just bought that exact HUAWEI a few days ago because the lightning decided to kill my Netgear's ADSL abilities. From the reviews it looks like the HUAWEI has good and on the box or says it's "ultra-stable" so that might be a good idea.

i got a B593 that I still need to pick up also dunno if i got the best price though.....

I would go with Huawei or if you are near Esquire then for like R200 more you can get the ASUS ADSL Modem which is rock solid.

I just threw away my Netgear DGN2200.....maybe just a bad experience..but never had a solid ADSL connection and online gaming was a problem. I bought a Billion 8800NXL from computer mania about a week ago... R1299...and so far its been very good.. Solid connection, wifi good, and has 1 gigabit lan port + 3 standard 10/100 ports... also VDSL and fibre/3g/LTE ready....

Huawei doesnt provide software updates

True, and a bit difficult to find even the stock that comes with some of their units. Well at least that's my experience with my B593 LTE one. But then their products are solid and one won't need to fiddle around much with updates

Definitely the Netgear.

Netgear makes solid hardware but their firmware is a lottery
