A friend of mine is looking to spend some serious money on a 4 x 4 , he doesn't go serious off-roading but a trip to the K.N.P every 3months is possible .
He currently has an RS4 , 600cc motorbike and a GTi , all he needs now is a UBER 4X4 and a speedboat , then he is living "the life" .

Any suggestions ?

Porsche Cayenne GTS ?
ML63 ?
Cherokee SRT 8 ?

If there are any others out there , lets speak about it.

cayenne turbo s
Range Rover, any of them
Hummer H 1 or H 2
BMW X 5 4.8 sport
The ML 63
Audi Q7 is not to bad either, if fully spec'd

Ha ha let's all sing along now :

Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me
I think theyre o.k.
If they dont give me proper credit
I just walk away

They can beg and they can plead
But they cant see the light, thats right
cause the boy with the cold hard cash
Is always mister right, cause we are

Chorus:

Living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Toyota Land Cruiser Pickup.

It has been named Best 4x4 ever built ;)

if he buys any of the ones you mentioned... it's not a 4x4 :D
Just a car with 4wheel drive

Toyota.. those ones that Top Gear team drove to the North Poles :P

I was brought up on a farm, the farmers in my area all went Toyota. They also have a really good resale value.

well i think that guy actually wants to have a big chunky suv 4 x 4 ... so maybe even a land rover discovery might do the trick

If he wants a "performance" 4x4 then he should get an X6 and a few cans of spray-on mud. If he wants a real 4x4 then he should go for a Toyota landcruiser. The central africa UN fleet uses those (7th gen)...if they get bodywork damage then they fix it with blou draad.:D

MAGANGAT: Firstly your friend should go drive all the cars he has eye on and then decide. Dont go and buy a car purely on suggestion.

I would rate 4x4's like this;

Performance king: Porsche Cayenne Turbo / GTS
Serious 4x4 with luxury: Toyota Land Cruiser 200
More road bias 4x4: BMW X5 xDrive 48i / Range Rover
Pure 4x4: Land Rover Defender

I would also wait for the X6 xDrive50i. That big dude from 5th Gear drove the smaller 30i and was absolutely astounded by the incredible handling. Better the Porsche Cayenne.

As a city dude and car crazy nut that X6 would be my choice but like I said go drive 'em all.

Good luck!

Few nice ones here. Just don't choke when you see the price

From the OP, I thought he meant performance more than real 4x4 ...

... in that case its odd none of you mention the Touareg V10. 5.0l V10 biturbo with 750nm torque. Pretty close performance wise to both GTS and Range Rover Sport (sub 8 second).

Also according to reviews, awesome as a 4x4 ... same as Porsche an Q7 actually

Hahaha! Good luck to your friend! Heard the auto industry guys speaking about this car in particular the other night. Nobody wants to touch it with a 10-foot pole and those who do, trade on at least a 50% discount.

LOVE the car though...

Cayenne Turbo and the SRT8 not sure if we have the SRT10 in SA if we do then thats the one! The Toureg V10 is also quite powerful but doesnt look the part. Porsche wins here again.
