I am unable to continue having weekend downtime with Cool Ideas unfortunately, wouldnt like to go but this is ridiculous now when it starts interefering with work.

Any suggestions who to go to then?
On MFN

Thanks

My sentiments exactly.
Was going to pull the trigger on "Mind the Speed", but there was a report that their website was down, domain registration expired...

So in the same boat again.

On FrogFoot.

Moving ISP's will not help - there is an ongoing DDoS attack affecting multiple ISP's - including Afrihost mentioned above.

Best advice below;

Just get a VPN until they're back up.

Switching ISPs is pointless, because others are already hit, and those that aren't, will be.

All you'll be doing is adding unnecessary admin to your life. When the next ISP is hit then you'll need to switch again.

That's a lot of notice periods, by which time the attacks will be mitigated anyway, and you would have switched for nothing...

Well what happens when the VPN's transit provider gets hit like seacom or whoever they use? Same story. We know that CISP is having their ip range attacked. With Afrihost is was Liquid Telecom that was attacked. Now they changed their routes so that should help since it wasn't Afrihosts ip ranges that were attacked it was their transit provider.

Exactly. Pointless changing ISP's as they're all getting attacked. A VPN will let you choose your outbound route, so impact will be limited.

Your easiest solution is to ride out the wave until it's over, or use a VPN if you really must.

That is an option an inexpensive option I agree but then you look at stats over time and a few names pop up that have not faced or had ddos attacks.

Mind the Speed (Network Platforms), Vox and then other smaller ISPs like Metrofibre, Aeonova360, Accelerit then the big ones Mweb, MTN (Supersonic), Vodacom and Cellc C-Fibre.

It's only a matter of time...

Is ExpressVPN any good?

I use ExpressVPN - it's solid. Using it now on Cool Ideas with a South African IP - all international traffic working.

It's pricey, but the best VPN service out there.

If you want me to do any tests via the VPN let me know.

Thanks Done, which location should I use?

I'm using South Africa (like to stick to a local footprint for my needs) - works 100%,

But you can use any other location if performance isn't great for you.

Stick to their recommended locations for best performance.

All big geographical locations are flawless in my experience.

How is it that those ISPs have been able to avoid it? I know someone who's with Vox, and he hasn't been impacted by any of the DDoS attacks over the past while.

explanation is simple.... DDoS's are targeted. It's not a generic attack. If you are targeted, you're going down.

It's exactly the same as a robbery. A robber targets an individual/s. Those are the ones that go down.

Makes sense. So, there's a reason (that we don't know) that CI's IP range has been targeted multiple times over the past few months, whereas Vox has been lucky enough to avoid it?
