Hi guys,

I'm in an area that currently shows as 'build in progress' on vumatel, I've also seen them starting to do some digging.

I now want to start thinking about which ISP/package to select. I'm currently undecided between cool ideas and crystal web. I want to spend around the R1000 mark so that gives me the 50mb options on either provider. Can anyone with some experience with these give some input?

Crystal web definitely. If you sign a contract with CW you can get 100meg for R1k/m.

The owners of CW are here on the forum and interact with everyone regularly.

I've got a mate on CI too and he says it works perfectly for him, so really I don't think you can go wrong with either. CW gives you premium news server access though...

Just a correction, the owners of crystal web were banned from this forum. I'm not sure if their R1k intro special is still going either. Also I don't think there's news server access with crystal fibre.
Both networks are great though. CW has a bit more rdundancy than CI.

Hi what about Iconnect or vox, any views on the service from them. Is it worth shifting to void with your existing telkom number. Tx

Do you have a CW line at the moment? How is twitch and gaming on it? If I can get 100Mb for the price of 50 that is really enticing.

Do you know why they got banned?

I am on Cool Ideas, and have had no problems at all

Thanks, been hearing good things about Cool Ideas, the decision is harder now that I have to choose between CI 50/50 and CW 100/100 (if available).

Also does anyone know if either network throttles/shapes heavily? I'm not a crazy downloader but if the need comes its nice to have it there. Also streaming (twitch/youtube) and gaming is important.

Long story, involving calling RPM out on misleading poll results, poor polling methodology, and myBB not allowing CW to advertise and otherwise prejudicing their business.
I don't know what sparked it.

As far as I know, neither throttles or shapes their traffic. I cannot speak for CW, but CI definitely does not shape or throttle. Have tested it.

Do you know how gaming and twitch (streaming not broadcasting) is on CW?

Gaming is fantastic.

Twitch is hit or miss - it's entirely dependant on the source. There's no shaping though - you'll get whatever the source can provide you.

I'm on Cool Ideas for a year now and now issue with them. Their customer service is actually quite efficient for the one time I had to deal with them.

On Cool Ideas with Fibrehoods. Have used their Vumatel, which I think is actually better. Their support has been amazing the times I have had to use it, and would highly recommend them!

When I have contact support via LOW PRIORITY mails I have always had a response within the same day, and they have really gone out of their way to fix the issues I have had. Getting my advertised speed, with torrents hitting around 5.6MB/s on my 50/50 (Depending on source of course). Intentional speeds are great and latency is LOW, even my intentional to the UK is normally below 160ms
