I am trying to set up a line dedicated to uploading a 500 kbps video stream to the U.S. for a Ustream channel or a TVU networks channel (I film conferences). I'm on a Mweb uncapped, unshaped 4mbps line at the moment but it does not allow me to upload anything at more than 0.2mbps to the U.S.! (the Max upload speed I get locally is 0.43mbps - tested with Speedtest). Any suggestions on how I can achieve this?

1. well read in a mybb article that those new Neofail fiber uncapped lines or something gives you the same upload and download speed ..... so like 5 mbps down but also 5mbps up and so on .... 0_o .... but its expensive
...... search through the articles you will find something ... well that's 1 option for what you can do ...

2. Move to the US ... wold be cheaper

4. Make your own company and get your own network and ten use that.

or trie 3G , 4g(CellC fail's) ...... NOT .... (lol)

Co-sign word for word lol, especially #2, it actually MIGHT BE cheaper just to move to the US.

But what you can actually do is get an international server and use it to upload, something like this:
1. You host your .MP4 file on your home pc, create a FTP fileserver(filezilla server client) so that other computers can connect to your computer via FTP.
2. Your International server(you rent per month) logins in your FTP to your home PC and downloads the .MP4 file(it should be downloading at a pretty good rate)
3. Once the .MP4 file is on your international server, you then login to Ustream etc and upload it. It would be done in a matter of minutes.

Now this method is a bit...OUT THERE but maybe it can help you in someway, please keep us updated if you find a solution.

that would work unless it needs to be live ....

i think the best way to go is Neotels Fibre things with the fkn fast upload/download...
but it is also expensive and the FUP sounds dodgy like some IS thing

Live, Mobile and locally based

Yes, it needs to be LIVE (and preferably mobile). I film conferences at various locations around SA and we would like to now use Ustream so that they can be watched live internationally. Moving to the U.S. is not an option. The best case scenario (best quality stream) for me would be to have a consistent 600kbps upload stream to the U.S.. How is it possible to guarantee speeds once the stream leaves the SA shores? As I said, getting upload speeds of around 420kbps locally (and 230kbps between Cape Town and the U.S.) is about the best I get at the moment on an (unshaped Mweb 4Mbps ADSL line) but ideally I need a consistent 600kps upload stream to the U.S. to work on a mobile solution. Is there any way I could get this and also guarantee a stable fast stream once once the stream has left SA and is "in the cloud" offshore so to speak? Any advice is much appreciated for both a mobile and non-mobile solution.

SA ranks no.6 in Africa for upload speed

2. Move to the US ... wold be cheaper

Or I could move to Ghana :( I was reading that in Africa, Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tunisia all have better upload speeds than SA. Ghana's upload speeds are nine times higher that South Africa's!!!

Maybe you should look at doing it via satellite??

Why don't you bind multiple ADSL lines together? That'll give you aggregate upload speed as well.

How do I do this? or is there a thread in this forum somewhere for help on this?

Not sure about a thread but MWeb, DataPro and other ADSL providers have binding routers which can aggregate the lines. Speak to them directly.

Thanks for the help. ADSL just does not cut it for upload - unless I go for the bonded line option (hopefully 3 ADSL lines will give me the upload speed I need - but this becomes very expensive). This weekend I was doing some tests with Vodacom's HSUPA USB modem stick and I'm getting upload speeds to the U.S. which are about 8 times faster than I was getting with Mweb and Afrihosts unshaped ADSL on a 4mb line. So I'm sorted now when it comes to a mobile solution. The only problem is the Vodacom's Data is fairly expensive. If only I could get uncapped HSUPA! Is that just a dream?
