Which ISP should I choose?

^ That's what I was asking, people suggest MWEB since they Shape bandwidth and not throttle?
 
Hi, I'd want a ISP that can offer me a 4mbps line uncapped unshaped with NO Trotheling. I'm with Axxess at the moment but they throttle me during the daytime, and thats mostly when I'm active. I do downloads, youtube etc. Any suggestions?

Expect to pay premium for any unshaped uncapped account, you really get what you pay for.

Well I use the plugg account at home im only there after business hours when its unshaped so its perfect . Just checked my usage
Was previously using the same account at the office aswell was reasonably good during office hours

MrG sorry to bug you but One Dot Com or the old BCS NET just told me to look for a new ISP by end November, I use uncapped on my side plus have 4 more ADSL clients under my wing that is part of me and 7 additional mailboxes that I need to move somewhere... paying for all about R8200 per month.

Any advice please will be welcome.

I just went to Openweb this month after getting HORRIBLE speeds from Afrihost last month. It was the worst internet experience I've had in my life. After 3 weeks of struggling and asking for the refund they so proudly claim as your logo: "100% passion your money back"... No refund. I had a 1Mb uncapped account and since the 10th I could not get anything higher than 40Kbps download speed MAX!

After 3 weeks of struggling I got this email from them (paraphrasing):
"Sorry, we have to adhere to IS restrictions. We are sorry you had to suffer the results of these restriction. If I could have done anything for you I would have done so already. Please don't hesitate to contact us if there is anything else we can do for you"

So yeah, paid them for a month of uncapped at 1Mb and got nothing more than 40Kbps for 3/4 of the month. 80% of my download bandwidth was from files disconnecting and I had to redownload the same file over and over and over and over [et infinitum]. Worse internet experience of my life.

Then I went to open web and got their 1Mb uncapped GOLD account. not open browse or anything, their GOLD account!
On day 1 I had to email the CEO and ask him why my download speed was only 6Kbps. So he moved me over to somewhere else and my line speed was bumped to 50Kbps on my 1Mb gold account! Hoorah! Day three I wasn't at home so I have no idea what my internet was like but today, on day 4 I get download speeds of between 0.3kbps and 6kbps. 233Mb file takes 3 days 18 hours to download on their GOLD account.

So I want to go open a support ticket only to find that my ADSL login details don't let me in to the accounts section of the website. So I phoned support and got attitude from the guy on the other end of the line. I asked him for my login details and he asked me for my cellphone number and said he would log a fault and call me back... A number of hours later and I am still getting 5kbps on my download that now only has another 18 hours left and I still don't have login credentials for my account...

Congratulations. In only 4 days with OpenWeb THEY have become the worst internet experience of my life. At least Afrihost had the decency to give me 10 days of internet before stealing the rest of my month's payment and they were kind enough to call me to attempt to help... OpenWeb starts on day 1 and just wants me off the phone and doesn't even bother providing me with login credentials for my own account...

So, who wants to give a thumbs up for OpenWeb???

I have to agree with you on their support portion... I've had my 1gig and 2gig Capped account deleted every month for the last 3 months... Last month I told them that the one account is used by my mom 370KM away, the change in account details is NOT an option... they said don't worry the accounts won't get deleted but what happens? This month the accounts are deleted again! I email them and ask wtf is going on only to get the response the account was removed here's your new account details! As far as I'm concerned they seriously need to change their support/accounts process

Is this country destined to have this sort of service from all our ISP's?

I am looking for a new ISP as im currently with Mweb, and i've noticed when they work, it works well. When **** hits the fan, their service cannot be used! at all! I'm on a 4mb Uncapped account @ R539 pm. So looking for the same speed etc.

Now, reading all the threads here, seems that OpenWEB is not any better :(

Could anyone give me some advice as to which ISP is decent?
Playing World Of Warcraft on Mweb at the moment is a no go as there is so much choke, after awhile you get disconnected.
HoN have issues themselfs, but some of it is to do with mweb.

Help!
 
Im with you on this t1ck3ts - I've been with MWEB for a while now, past few weeks its been dropping all day every day, I can even put up with the ****ty download speeds, but when it interferes with my work week in week out, thats where i draw the line.

Is there a single ISP in this country that can actually offer a decent uncapped service?
 
I really think ADSL is a waste of time now. Every single ISP is unreliable and constantly having problems with their uncapped offerings. If I had not just purchased a new router, I would be moving to 8ta.

I am on a 1mbps uncapped line with Mweb and they throttle during the daytime as well. Not sure what happens on their 4mbps line.
 
Got to give some feedback here. I got given a IC ADSL voucher and its coming to an end. Got an email from Connect stating I can chose to continue with them at R19 per GB which so far is the cheapest prepaid I've seen. Prepaid works for me because I dont use much bandwidth. Im thinking of taking their 2GB option at R38. Im not a fan of IC at all, stay away from their stores due to inflated prices...but Connect as an ISP seem to be on the ball.

I used Telkom for bandwidth...horrid experience. Some websites didnt work properly and speeds were all over the place. Connect so far has been very stable, and have had no issues at all. Getting the same kinda speeds and consistent connections as I do with my Afrihost account.

So ja...will see how the rest of Dec goes...and might be moving over to them...odd, never thought I would say that...
 
Give INXS Broadband a try.. Been with them for 6 months now and have had no hassle!

You mention R539 pm.. does this include your line rental?

Afrihost claims their Capped data packages are unshapped! You should take them on about that!

The truth is, us small little tiny users are at the bottom of the food chain. No priority is given to our data usage...

Follow this link UNCAPPED ADSL where you will find an explanation.
Go to PRODUCTS and check their UNCAPPED packages. They explain it all under the pricing. This is so far the only site (that I know of) that explains what you get when you decide to go UNCAPPED. They also offer alternatives..
