I am currently on Mweb 2mbps uncapped and have been suffering from serious throttling for some time. I'm an ISP noob and have been on Mweb for as long as I can remember so I am quite clueless when it comes to anything ISP/package-related.
Many of my friends are on Afrihost or Telkom and rarely have complaints.

I download an average of 70GB pm and sometimes hit 100GB.
  • I download a lot of music
  • I download an occasional game from steam and torrents
  • I am quite heavy on YouTube Videos
  • I stream a lot of Movies and Series

Looking for a 2/4mbps connection. Would prefer shaped since it seems a whole lot cheaper, unless of course other ISPs are as strict as Mweb. (I've been seeing many 'business' products which people recommend, exactly how much better is it than the normal ones and is it worth the price gap?)

So if anyone has any recommendations it would certainly help.

Cool. Give us an indication of what your willing to pay for such a service. That would be a good place to start :)

If MWeb is throttling you based on usage but you're otherwise happy with the service you might consider upgrading your account to one with a higher GB limit - I believe MWeb start throttling on 2MB uncapped if their projections indicate you will exceed 70GB/mth.

If your friends have the same usage patterns as yourself, heavy Youtube & VOD usage, go with their recommendations.

Finally, don't expect to stream video successfully for peanuts. A 100GB capped account is probably best suited for your current requirements.

IMHO - If you want to pay around R200 data, use ~100Gigs and want neither throttling or shaping - look at a capped option. AH does a 50 + 50 Gig for R199.

I download 250GB - 350GB on OpenWeb Gold 2MB uncapped. They don't punish you for downloading.
It's in your price range (R249)

The only downside is the speed might not be full speed during business hours (9ish - 6pm-ish)

If you are in the northern region (JHB ect) go with Afrihost business.

I was with Mweb 2 Meg Uncapped for several years but changed to TI 4 Meg uncapped in Feb 2014. A complete disaster. Switched to Afrihost uncapped and very unhappy. Now on 150 GB capped. very, very happy.

+1
Or the east (KZN) - AH business is a GREAT option albeit a bit more expensive.....

OW - To say daytime speeds are a bit slow is a bit of an understatement. OW daytime is really poor.

15Gigs? I blow through that practically every day :erm:

Two options:
1. You could upgrade with MWEB and go 4Meg. You'd be well within the throttle limits as the are higher on 4Meg.
2. Upgrade to premium.

I was with Mweb premium uncapped since it started in March 2009 and slowly the speed dropped during the day, especially on torrents and gaming pings got higher.
By December last year, gaming was unbearable and torrents were a joke.
I do an average of about 80 GB a month so am now on a 50+50 capped at Afrihost for R199 and am a very happy chappy :)
