Which ISP - Uncapped ?

Hi All,

This is my challenge I have been tasked to start up a support centre in SA for a International firm. We are a very small team however we seem to be using a large amount of data on a monthly basis. (Exchange/VPN connection to HO)

I am running a 4MB line

I am currently using a 10Gig through Nexus, what ISP would ya'll suggest I use? it should be as cost effective as possible and pref. no 3rd tier providers?

I am looking to move to uncapped, and currently IS's uncapped offering falls out of my IT budget.

Would also be interested in a response of those who can suggest a viable alternative to IS; as their monthly fees are exorbitant...

SAOL - Cybersmart not an viable option.

Looking for connectivity for small businesses that only require unshaped / uncapped 4MB connectivity during office hours (2-4 PC’s) that would prefer a fixed monthly fee.

Afterhours connectivity can be reduced to a trickle, as the lines will hardly be utilised – these will only be used for legitimate business use, however there are no packages in the market that is currently catering for small businesses?

Hosting, email, domains, line rental, etc. is not required as these will add to the overall costs and these "trinkets" are of very little value – as in my opinion, hosting should only take place in the First World due to connectivity, cost and uptime implications.

Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated.

IS is currently not an option for us right now due to the costs.

I am happy to work with any other 2nd Tier just not a 3rd tier. I do not mind being restricted in the evenings if that is the case, just want to find a semi cost effective uncapped account.

1) IS offers by far the cheapest uncapped options so if that's too expensive for you then you should give up on the idea of an uncapped account.

2) Any restricted uncapped account only restricts during the day, not during the evening.
 
If I was you I would be patient in getting a uncapped. Uncapped pricing should change dramatically by year end.
 
For uncapped during the business day, you pay. No-one is going to reward you for not using bandwidth after hours.

You should just get a package that has an automatic top up. Something like the Vox ADSL package at R50/gig would suit you best.
 
No thing as unshaped uncapped unrestricted internet at the moment.

I would suggest a per GB unshaped MTN business account (old verizon) it has good latencies to overseas.

Thanks - then FNB Connect is by far the best option; as far as cost and latency is concerned.

- Used Verizon in the past but not too sure about MTN Business - as far as cost is concerned?

Damn, why do SA Corporates need to be so greedy?

Yes, this is the issue: surely there must be a creative individual or company in SA that can assist - don't have much more patients with the old traditional ISP's.

I agree with deweyzeph on both points... uncapped is expensive firstly and secondly they will rather half price during non business hours. Logically it makes sense as most businesses with SLA's etc use the internet during the day meaning that much more bandwidth capacity is being utilised, however after hours it's a different ball game.

One more thing there is always a usage policy attached to uncapped services ;) be careful and read the fine print
