Hi everyone,

My request to cancel my ADSL was successful as I'm without any service as of this morning (touch wood, thanks Telkom looks like you did your job right for me at least).

With me relocating next week to a new house with Openserve fibre available, I have the tough choice to make with regards to whom I should place my order with.

I have 4 ISPs in mind (and not ranked in any particular order):

a) Webafrica
b) Axxess
c) ISPAfrika
d) Vox

I've heard and seen good things with regards to each of them, but more negative threads with regards to Webafrica and Axxess pertaining service levels on MyBB. Three of the 4 ISPs offer free installation, with an initial 12 month contract period to cover the installation cost.

I know a lot of people will vouch for Cool Ideas and I too will admit that their support here on MyBB is top notch. But, sadly, CISP is a bit too expensive at this point in time for me right now, so I need to opt for a free installation route with 100/50mb line in mind.

I want to see if I can perhaps place my order today, if not by next week Monday at the latest depending on feedback provided here for an install next week Friday (if I'm lucky).

Thanks in advance :)

Also in the same position, looking for an isp urgently, but dont bother with Coolideas, the salesperson who answered, has no inclination what good service is, and how to speak to customers, put me off totally..

We have no installation fee with Openserve currently.

Hi there, still waiting for your response on this please as it's not what we like to hear.

Got your reply, thanks. Will review the call and come back to you.

A little bit off topic, I would like to replace my current router seeing that its Wi-Fi capability seems to be dead.

Would something like this https://www.tp-link.com/za/products/details/cat-9_Archer-C2.html suffice as good replacement for fibre usage?

I know it's not the best there is, but does have gigabit ports, has dual band Wi-Fi and doesn't break the bank, which more than enough for what I'm going to use it for :)

If its just the wifi you want to improve disable your current routers wifi and then get something like this:

https://scoop.co.za/ubiquiti-unifi-dual-band-ac-lite-ap-uap-ac-lite.html

I have one at home, and because you can place it on the ceiling you can put it in the best possible spot. I replaced two TP links (at either side of my house) with one of these right in the centre.

Re. Cool Ideas

I have dealt with them a few times + have referred more than 30 ppl to them for fibre.

Not a single complaint to date so that sounds very unusual!

Cool Ideas on OpenServe is quite expensive, R1500pm. It's cheaper to get the cheapest 100Mbps line you can and adding a capped package that fits daytime and schedule the rest at night if you even use that much. For my usage, I have virtually uncapped at R1050pm.

Vumatel just trenched in front of my house, if I need to up the package due to usage, they're at R1219pm for 100/100 (yes, they also have a 1119 at 100/10, but I like the 50Mbps upload as it's usually one bulk item I don't want to wait on). I'd instantly swap to Cool Ideas the moment my usage justifies as I know they give great service in both customer care and the product.

Yeah Cool Ideas on Openserve is quite expensive and unfortunately I cannot wait until SADV and Frogfoot eventually go live. I need internet and I need it asap as my work is also dependent on it. The cheapest 100mb I can get is via ISPAfrika for R729 just for the line (one of only 2 ISPs I know of that let's you just order the line without needing to take data in addition as well). Have a 400GB Vox Fatpipe that I'm going to slap onto it which works out to roughly R893 which fits my pocket. They also offer free install on a 12 month contract, after which it will be month to month.

Cool Ideas has excellent bundle pricing. My R1.5k pm account is 100Mbit uncapped and unshaped without network congestion at any time of day and includes line rental. That's the best value by far on Openserve imo.

Their 10Mbit price is the same as Telkom (R699pm). Only Afrihost's garbage tier of 10Mbit uncapped is cheaper. Priority Uncapped from Afrihost (highest tier) for 100Mbit is R2017pm, so Cool Ideas is really good value.

Hmmm. This is so damn tough. I've asked myself over and over, do I really need 100mb or will 40mb suffice? Do I really need uncapped? It's not as if I'm going to download the internet and my usage is never really more than 400GB a month. Although this was on 40mb fibre back in the day and 12mb ADSL this past 1.5 years. CISP does have excellent customer service though and I'll probably be a fool not to go for that R1.5k deal. Mmmm..decisions, decisions.
