Ok so I need a new isp my current one is just out of budget. Currently sitting with a 4mn uncapped line with max datavusage around 200gigs.

I mainly do p2p with ltd nzbs. Streaming is done occasionally. there is zero gaming done on the line.

What do you guys recommend

I was thinking of a telkom soft cap account. As I can shedule all torrents for evenings. Would this work

If you're on a budget, the www.connection.co.za special @ R199 for 4mb uncapped (promo code is incredible4) should suit that usage, also no 30 day notice period so easy to leave also if you don't like it. Just don't DL during the day or else you will kill the account, do it overnight.

Considering going back myself as I'm having issues with my ISP at the moment.

How much are you currently spending?

What's your budget?

Possibly take out the 20mbs simple bundle with 50gb. How does the soft cap work? is it completely uncapped at night

Sounds yummy :), 12-6am yes. So let's do the math.

20480Kbps / 8 = 2560KB/s. Let's take 2000KB/s figure to be conservative and realistic (torrents).

2MB/s for 3600s (60 minutes) is 7GB+. So that's roughly +-30GB every night.

Poorly seeded torrents let's make it 15GB every night x 20 days = 300GB/month.

Currently 448 plus vat to telkom for adsl and analogue line rental plus R429 to CW for my isp. Works out to almost R1000. Which is a tad too much. Looking at a budget of R800 or so.

I knly use between 50gb to 200gb a month. So cw full uncapped is a bit overkill.

Really considering the soft cap now

Good option.

As long as you remain within that 50GB cap then your night surfer downloads will FLY! Schedule them between 00h00 and 07h00 and you will get near to line speed downloads.

I am considering a similar move - must just work out my day time usage to determine which capped product to use.

Ok the problem with telkom is a 24 month contract

But a bargain at R770 incl line rental and modem

Still pretty much worth it in my view. As MickeyD stated, you can also have your "own" ISP if need be (day time or top up on Telkom), immediately I think. As what he's referring to, contract is actually on device:
Customer must sign a compulsory debit order and 24 month sales agreement to pay off the device
http://www.telkom.co.za/campaigns/simple-3/terms-and-conditions.html

Although T's and C's off another package, should be similar.
