As far as I know that's everyone. Only SAIX don't send them.

Anyone got one from Openweb? I would be surprised considering some of their (IS) accounts are marketed as P2P and torrent friendly.
I wonder if Cybersmart jumped on the wagon simply to alleviate some pressure on their (SAIX) network?

I have received from Axxess, and you can bet a lot of others have due to their express accounts being used a lot for torrents.
Just because an ISP says they are torrent friendly doesn't mean they are saying something illegal. There are a lot of legal torrents out there, not that the masses are using them I guess. Just because an ISP promotes the use of their bandwidth, doesn't mean they promote online fraud. The smaller ISP's are just going to pass on the notices, the same way they would pass on any other illegal activity that was picked up from your IP address. Privacy laws are still on the end users side here in SA.

I have never heard of anyone receiving these notices from Openweb. I myself have been with them for many years and have never received one, and I download alot of illegal stuff; simply because I can.

never heard off anyone receiving from Cybersmart....

Any 'P2P or torrent friendly' ISP that promotes the legal content available on these networks is hiding behind exactly the same BS as everyone who uses them but claims that they only share legal content. How can a company have an FUP that explicitly prohibits intellectual property/ copyright infringement while promoting P2P networks at the same time?

My thinking is that some ISPs might use these letters to alleviate heavy downloading on the network. Since the 'uncapped revolution,' where the R/gig model no longer applies (on uncapped, the more you use, the cheaper it gets per gig!) ISPs no longer have an incentive to promote heavy use. 4 years of torrenting with Cybersmart and never a peep from them. 3 weeks into the uncapped storm, with clients clamoring and complaining for more and faster bandwidth, and suddenly Cybersmart are sending letters?

For those who do not frequent these forums those letters are scary! I know of many people who are still too scared to torrent anything because IS sent them a letter 2 or 3 years ago.
The psychology is interesting to me. If there is no SA legal obligation on the ISP to pass on these letters (which apparently constitute an infringement of SA law, illegal monitoring and deep packet inspection etc) why bother?

Got two letters last month! First time ever from them! And last month I only really used my Cybsersmart account during the cable-repair debacle.

Interesting point. +1
I wonder how much extra money the ISP's made this month due to the few days of downtime where they could kill P2P and "rightfully" blame SEACOM. Must admit, I am using four different providers, with various different lines/packages, and the p2p side of things took quite a while to come back on at least two of them, even though SEACOM & P2P had been back up on the others for many hours.

Hmmm... I have a subscription from Graboid $ 4.00 a month. I get to download HD series, movies and Adult movies and it is all legal with speeds of 400 KB + constant. I think it is about time we quit torrents to avoid all these garbage letters. On that note, I do not recall receiving a letter from Cybersmart. Then again, I hardly ever use torrents. They are way too slow and I hate P2P.

been using them for a while now and have done about 500bg without getting letters....
you using anything like Peerblock?

I think some trackers are being heavily monitored. uTorrent is currently in a law suit for copyright infringement. I know the letters may not seem as much but when the rooftop blows then everyone goes down with the ship. Maybe you are right, use peerblock.

I wasn't prior to the letters. I am now, not that I really care about BayTSP :) Torrents don't account for much of my DLs, but sometimes they are quicker than other options. I only use private trackers though, although some of them are obviously not so private.....

From a consumer perspective, considering the legal status quo regarding personal use downloading, and the choice/changes in the market, I will always choose an ISP that doesn't bug me, over one that does. Final nail in my Cybersmart coffin, I guess.

Can you hammer a nail on their coffin from my side as well? Garbage service ever.

If anybody wants peerblock, check my sig. I'm part of the peerblock team, for the record :) I've been using peerguardian and peerblock for many many years, and I've never received any letters. Lucky? Maybe. Coincidence? Who knows :)

Not true, SAIX sends them as well, just not directly to end users, it's up to the ISP who owns the user to deal with the request and forward them on, not all do.

Cybersmart doesn't use SAIX bandwidth. They use their own backbone.....
