Does anyone have info on which ISPs use which cables (i.e. SAFE, EASSy etc.) as overseas links? The reason I'm asking is because at work we need to have a reliable back-up ISP in case our main one (Telkom :erm:) has a connectivity issue, we need an ISP that's running on a different link completely.

The only ones I know of are under the sea.

Choose an ISP who has a backup connection through another cable. I think most ISPs have agreements in place to use each others bandwidth when one of the cables goes down.

Interesting Graphic

back ups to use for Telkom, Afrihost, axxess they run of internet solutions networks

OpenWeb on their Gold packages allow you to switch between 4 Backbones, i have the 4MB one and it is a pleasure to switch between them when there is a problem and it doesn't cost extra either.

Backbones available are Internet Solutions (IS), Vodacom (VB), Altech & BCSNet.

Being that you want it for a business, i am sure Keoma will be able to sort you out.

Email him on [email protected] :)

Good luck :)

I went this route and was rather disappointed, as too many users were sharing the same account, would suggest you rather contact reuben[AT]trltech.co.za; as one user uses one account, better pricing, support and more backbones to choose from.

As far as I know MWEb use both Seacom and SAT 3.
In terms of overseas connectivity... So does Telkom (unless they only had Seacom as a temporary arrangement for the SWC). They also use SAFE, SAT2, EASSY and a satellite link, as well as the soon to be lit, WACS..
