Which kitchen machine?

I like the mixer but the dough hook is truly awful, so I went for an aftermarket upgrade. It wasn't cheap but it was worth it.

Thinking of getting a few more attachments, like a meat grinder.
Are you referring to this one? I think it is the standard one. How is the one you posted better?

That’s the one I replaced.

New one doesn’t end up having the dough climbing up and actually kneads it. Maybe my 1kg batches were too small?

Hmmm, you may be on to something. I have the standard one, and it makes a lekker drol turd shape dough that just spins around. I have to manually poke the turd to get some kneading. This is with 500g of flour.

I also scrape off the dough from the hook in between kneading

Pretty apt description.

Fortunately the new one works like a charm.

I've had mixed experiences with the standard dough hook. From what I can tell, it is very sensitive to the quantity of dough being mixed, and also the type.

I've also considered trying out the spiral type but haven't taken the plunge.

For other attachments, I scored a bargain on FB marketplace about 2 years ago, grinder attachment, sealed box for R600. I see the current price is ~R2500. I use the grinder a lot as I prefer grinding chuck as opposed to water filled, anemic store bought mince.

Yeah - the grinder is next on my list.

We have a kitchenaid back home and it's good, but not better. Plus they're grossly overpriced in SA.

Yeah was just making jokes.

I don’t have a problem with small volumes but when a batch is too big it does become a **** show.

Takes my just under 2kg pizza dough mix happily which is the most frequent thing that goes in there.

Don’t find it particularly overpriced locally, it’s just an expensive product by default catering to a small market.

By default it's a $400 mixer they're selling for R15k locally.

My wife tells me her sister says she has one she got with a Chef Titanium a few years back and she's never used it - if it's compatible I may have got myself a grinder :)

What giant pizza's do you make?

lol - I usually only make 4-5 at a time. 3x 205g, for the wife and kids, and one or two 290g, for myself and the freezer.

The bowl on the Kenwood XL is huge so it gets lost in there.
