Which laptop for +/- R3500

Hey myBB'ers,

I've got someone looking for a new laptop around the R3500 mark. He's just looking to surf the Web, send/receive emails, play music and watch videos?

What would be the minimum spec? Would an Intel Celeron with 2GB RAM and Windoze 7 Starter cut it? Anybody with any specific recommendations?

That doesn't look three bad... I just had a quick look on Sybaritic, Asus X54C Intel Celeron Dual-Core, but I think yours beats mine.

Yours is of better brand and has a bigger hard drive, but mine has a 2 year warranty and yours have a 1 year warranty.

Both the laptops in question at lower prices. I've used rebeltech twice and I have no complaints.

The cheapest one on that page is R3600 EXCL VAT (or R4100 incl). If you follow the link on the first page, the only one that is sub R3500 (incl VAT), is the Toshiba Satellite C850 for R2999 ex VAT.

Tbh Asus and Gigabyte are equally good IMO. Just that Asus has more variety in SA which includes better build quality models (which you pay for).

Laptop with USB 3+eSATA AND an SSD... for around R3500 as per OP... ? Going to be some long wait that is .

IC has a Samsung with a 1TB HDD and a 3 year warranty for just over R4K.
Most of the laptops I've seen come with 1year and 320GB.

Hmmm... probably has a Celeron CPU... there are i3s with 2 year warranties for around R4500.00. For around the same price.. an i3 with 500GB drive beats a Celeron with 1TB in my books.
