Which laptop?

The acer is definitely the newer and better spec'd one, although I still don't know what resolution and Windows (32bit or 64bit) its has.

The Asus laptop comes with a very nice warranty, but only having a small resolution of 1366x768 would be terrible for designs. So unless she's got an external full HD screen I cannot recommend the Asus one.

The Acer is a little bit expensive. This MSI has a better warranty and screen for cheaper: http://www.zapsonline.com/msi-note/...-hdd-nvidia-gt540m-1gb-ddr3-156-notebook.html

If she is a student. With that budget, I would be looking at the top end one here: http://www.studentlaptop.co.za/

However, if you want to go even cheaper to the R 7000 budget, then this is a nice laptop with the same specs as the acer, but much cheaper: http://rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=122_222&products_id=7989

Thanks, there are 2 sites where i found the acer for R7500.
but that gigabyte is probably topping the list now.
I wonder if these prices are including vat?

PS. To use up more budget, you could upgrade to 8GB RAM. RAM is so cheap today. Depending on what the stock RAM is, whether 1 x 4GB or 2 x 2GB. You would need 1 x 4GB, or 2 x 4GB and then sell the 2 x 2GBs.

You can use CPU-z to check if the laptop came with 2x 2GB or 1x 4GB of RAM, by going to the SPD tab and iterating through the slots.
CPU-z will also show the model nr, speed, voltage and latencies of the currently installed memory, as well as how many RAM slots are available.

I would suggest that you start looking for RAM at Takealot.com, because they ship for free with any order over R150. Don't pay more than R250 per 4GB.

Nice spotting of that price @ PostmanPot! Just having a mobile phone makes searching for prices difficult.
