which laptop?

Yep, it is quite chunky, but the screen realestate is well worth the extra .5kg weight. She doesn't travel that much and it's serving as her desktop so she needed to balance daily usage against how often she travels. It goes from office into boot and at home onto desk. The 17.3" is really nice for spreadsheets, which is a large part of her job.

Also, it games really well :-)
.
Edit: She's yet to buy a bag for it but if she gets the trolley backpack type the size matters a little less.

Fair enough. But 1920*1080 on 15.6 inch makes for rather tiny writing (I know you can bump up font size but IMO devs and site designers never cater for that properly so it messes up layouts).

Which specific ASUS n53sm are you looking at? (They come with quite a few config options....)

Interesting, yeah I see what you mean so maybe the Gigabyte is the better option as it costs about 7k from Rectron.
I did not think about the small writing, looking at the 2 gig graphics option

It does seem like a solid machine but shop around a bit cause I can see it cheaper than that.
