I am looking to purchase an LCD monitor but I'm having trouble deciding which one to get.

So far I like the
Samsung 932BF
Samsung 931BW

I am on a budget of R2300, and I don't want anything bigger than a 19".

Any help will be appreciated.

That is a nice monitor but the bigger screen means better resolutions. I have used a 22" before and its beautiful but I don't think I would be able to maintain the native resolution too long on my 8800GT with all these new computer killing games coming out.

@MrE: But which one is better for gaming, the 932BF looks quite square but its resolution is more widely supported while the perspective on the 931BW is very nice but older games don't support the native resolution.

I'm also hunting for a LCD (need moola first though) and the Samsung 932BF looks like a great LCD here
It really is one of the better affordable 19" LCDs available :)

@Killadoob: that's nice monitor, Just over R2300 and its got nice contrast, just looking for a proper review for it now.

@Praeses: It is a good monitor and for R2000 it is a bargain. The only problem with Samsungs is that they don't have very many adjustment options as you cannot really alter their height.

Thats jst the thing :) Take into account DVD's if you watch a fair amount on your pc (+widescreen).
There are mods that allow a lot of older games to utilise the widescreen aspect, bt ye it could be a mish, and those that don't will have black bars on left-right.
I really like the widescreen aspect, it just feels more natural for my line of sight.

yup widescreen FTW

most new games support widescreens

(hope i didnt say anything bad mre, would hate to know i have a rep hahaha :)

Can't you just let it go? I really don't need any bad vibes.

Seems like widescreen is the way to go. So its either the Samsung 932GW or the 931BW.

Go for the one you can get the cheapest I reckon, both great.

@Mecurial: I was originally going to get the L194WT but then I read some really bad reviews. You probably got a friendly screen :) but I don't want to take the risk.

I'll be getting me a LG 204WT 20" (14.7 colours!)

Just a little over R2300, funny thing is I queried Kalahari.net about when they'll be stocking the Wide LCD's from LG, they told me their suppliers do not know, 4 days later they have them on their site LOL :D

damn u paying 2.3k for a 20" wow expensive :)

a lil more and you could have alot of choice's between 22" monitors

where did u read these bad reviews? there ain't nothing wrong with it.

On a forum somewhere. Lots of people were complaining. I went out yesterday and actually looked at the LG, and I'm trying to figure out why they complaining. For under R2000 this monitor was superior to the Asus they had in the shop for R300 more.

Damn its getting difficult deciding now

dude, mine is working fine. i have no complaints. it's a bloody good LCD. what kind of complaints were they talking about? as u said, u were trying to figure out what they were complaining about... we both can't see why they were complaining. i wouldn't recommend Asus.

How's the response time on it? I'm not asking what it says on the package...
The L204WT has a horrible actual response time
The response time average is 13.6 milliseconds. The longest transition takes as long as 26.3 milliseconds. This is just what you can expect from a matrix without Response Time Compensation. The specified response time of 5 milliseconds is only achieved on the transition from pure black to pure white.
linky
I'm not saying the L194WT is similar, I'm just indicating that normal gtg response times are useless.

Compare the above with the 4:3 Samsung 932BF:
The average response time is 4.5 milliseconds and the maximum is 20 milliseconds. Those few slow transitions spoil the average, preventing the monitor from entering the ranks of the fastest available models, although the difference can hardly be caught by the eye alone without measuring instruments.
linky2

For gaming you want the response times to be very low, otherwise you'll have permanent motion blur ;)
Some people don't notice bad response times while other people, like myself, would be very bothered by it.

@ OP:
I'd rather go for a 4:3 monitor with good response times than getting a 16:9 with high ms even though I'll be missing out on 16:9 goodness. That's just me though :)
